Is there an alternative router to the new Fibe VDSL2 router?

Hi Everyone,

The new VDSL2 router from Bell supplying me with 25Mbps (Sagecom 2864) is not a really good unit either due to hardware or Bell crappy firmware. I am wondering what alternatives are available in the market?

I am an open-source guy and I know how fast and solid the connection can be when things are simple or open-source. Please advise any good DSL modems that you have used which works with the new Fibe services.

Thanks

- Continuous drops on daily basis
- Bloat-ware from Bell
- History of having bad modems/routers before (Bell)
- Simply not giving me all the controls to tweak the connection as I want it.

The Sagemcom modem runs linux at it's core.

I'm not using it as a router, but as a bridge hooked up to a 3rd party router that runs Tomato Firmware.

Runs great, much better than the Cellpipes which have issues with rebooting if its on the wrong firmware.

As for alternatives, if you're in scarborough it likely means you're on a Lucent Stinger (Ikanos based) FTTN remote and there aren't any verified alternatives yet.

If you were on the newer Alcatel 7330-ISAM remotes, then yes you could use other VDSL2 modems.

I would suggest you to call them

Yes, the previous one was having issue.. but not that one

For the other point, that others reason...

But the sagemcom is pretty stable.. i have it on FTTH (50/50) at my main home and on FTTH at my city appartment with 7/1 with Fibe TV and its pretty stable since april 28...

Thanks for the input. How would I know which remote I am on? ( Alcatel 7330-ISAM or Lucent Stinger)

I am in Ajax. Network been upgraded about 6 months ago.

Ajax is probably 7330's. Ask in the Bell Direct forum, they can look up your phone # and tell you the remote type.
