Actually, the cost is negligible compared to what deploying fiber costs. I agree that fiber is the future and a very elegant solution but the life left in HFC systems is... I would say 15, 20 or more years?
Our neighborhood's 860 MHz HFC plant is older that 15 years and we have no problems, when we got docsis3.0 all that the cableco had to do is to issue new modems. I never saw a cableco truck working on anything outside our neighborhood, all work was done on the CMTS and replacing modems. |
