| Wish I could get some answers. Since August of last year we've had nothing but disconnect after disconnect, billing error after billing error and I'm tired of it. If our market wasn't so monopolized by at&t we'd have switched ISP's long ago. Here are some screenies from UVRealtime (sorry for the partial functionality). Can ANYONE help, the BBB complaint is getting me nowhere as is complaining to at&t. If they promise to have better connectivity with UVerse and you don't get what was advertised for whatever reason, they should allow me to downgrade to DSL and MAX rate for the same price. no hooks. -- ---- As long as superstition prevails, we will fall short of eradicating war, poverty, and hunger. -J. | Since when does RealTime work with IPDSLAM/2701 Modem?
Beyond that, are you on a home run from NID to the Modem?
Officially for IPDSLAM, the 2701 only supports up to the 6 Mbps Elite plan. The Moto 2210 or Moto NVG510 is supposed to be used for Max 12 or Max Plus 18 Speeds |

| Dunno. I know that when I installed it last it didn't work. At least in this latest version it seems to have partial functionality.
I live in an apt. complex that leads straight to a punchboard NID. There is only ONE jack in the apt.
I'd be willing to accept a NVG510 if they would have offered me one. I want no part of the motorola electro-bricks. I already had a 2701HGV-B from BETA so that's why I have that one. -- ---- As long as superstition prevails, we will fall short of eradicating war, poverty, and hunger. -J. Fresco

| Sometimes there is a half-ringer on those apt jacks...
And there can be all sorts of little quirks on apartment wiring in general...
Was this self install, or have you had a tech out to look at wiring, both testing @ the apartment IT/NID/MPOE as well as inside the unit? |
|
ctceoPremium join:2001-04-26 South Bend, IN | I've had over 24 tech rolls on this. Not all have visited the apartment, but the ones who have have told me it's on their end. The apt wiring is crystal clear. |

| I got nothin then, beyond giving the nvg510 a shot
Does the bitsloading chart page work of realtime? If it does, a shot of that might not hurt...
But with that many tech visits, whatever is wrong is probably not easily found, and may not be apparent on the bitsloading either |

| Unfortunately no, the bitload doesn't display, But here's a couple manual screenies. Beyond 384, there's no load.
If I could get a Tech to bring a 510 to test with and see if it helps I would accept it. |

|
ctceoPremium join:2001-04-26 South Bend, IN | Nope. Those systems were wired completely separated and removed in the 80's. The wiring is still there, but not in the same junction boxes. |

2 edits | reply to ctceo I am reaching a bit here, but do you know if a port swap @ the DSLAM in the CO has been tried yet? I honestly don't know if it would help or not though...
A port swap or perhaps a pair change, F1 and/or F2 and/or IW pair change...
After 24 visits, has a modem change even been offered?
And I would second getting in touch w/ David either via a Direct forum post or an email to helprequest@sbcglobal.net.

4 edits | A modem change was never offered. And yes, I do believe that a port swap has been done at least 2 times. ~150 of bridge tap was removed, and I never heard anything back on the load coil inspection. I have tried a Moto modem but it too suffers from the same problems. Heres a link to an old thread when I got some help from the really nice peeps here, that did help illicit some response from at&t, but invariably didn't solve the issues. »Botched Install?
To clarify, when I was offered a modem to test UVerse I kept getting the runaround from then 2wire and at&t about UVerse availability in my area when others had already had it. They started to call people and send e-mail offers months after the beta was closed but I got to keep the modem. Which is why when it became available I asked that no modem be included and chose self-install. Since I've been doing installs for many years I figured what could go wrong. I've never had a problem with ADSL here in the past, right? Was I wrong or what. First it took them a month to get service established, then the problems started a few weeks after install and haven't gotten any better in general since. To make matters worse, they tell me I shouldn't even qualify for UVerse by loop length alone, but refuse to move me back to STABLE ADSL. |

Just got through with a visit from a prem tech who tried a few 510's. Silly thing was it immediately hit 11.4 Mbps download, but all three 510's halved the upload from 740kbps to 380kbps. Now that I've reconnected the 2701 my upload speeds jumped to 935kbps... :/ Why? He didn't know.
He did mention that I was about 6900 feet on the loop.
Well see how long this lasts. I'll add some screenies to this in a minute for posterity sake.

| reply to ctceo Tech was out again today. Discovered a few more carbon base connectors and old wiring in the INID. Will wait a few days to post some bitloads.
In the meantime I've had a few specialists tell me that the at&t firmware is prone to dropouts like this so I'm gonna look for an alternate firmware or a better firmware. If anyone has any leads PM me. |

UPDATE:
Another tech was out who did a point to point inspection and determined that there is a small section between the NID and Jack that the modem is connected to which still has some quad. Why it wasn't replaced when they ran CAT5 to the main terminal, who knows?
They're placing blame on that fact stating that the quad wire is likely the cause of the degradation. Personally I've never found that to be an issue in the years I've done installations, but...
What is your opinion on there being a small run on quad? Would this be enough to cause interference to NOT occur over the course of a 2 or 3 day period and then go wonky?
In my years of installing and repairing house wiring, I've never really dealt with an antiquated terminal or install like the one he showed me. In fact it was right next to the little grey NID, which only had like 2 lines in it. My line was connected from the terminal to the NID via a dangling wire connected to the quad at the NID via a butt splice. Then quad to the closed jack (old sealed kitchen jack behind the refrigerator I was unaware of) then CAT6A (NOT 6e) from the "secret" box to the 1 known jack in the kitchen about 13 feet away. There was a bypass and line tap that was cut that went out the wall junction in a strange direction. Dunno what that was doing there. I didn't live here during the era that thing was made. -- ---- As long as superstition prevails, we will fall short of eradicating war, poverty, and hunger. -J. Fresco

| said by ctceo:... there is a small section between the NID and Jack that the modem is connected to which still has some quad. I would have thought that one of the techs' TDR checks or even an RTU would have caught that earlier. The techs that come to my house have never been shy about showing me the screen display or the printout of what they get, and which terminal or splice corresponds to which bump on the graph.
Of course if you don't have complete control over the premise wiring, it's another frustration point. One of those things I don't miss about renting.
I would be more suspicious of the connections at either end of the quad than the quad itself, but you'll know soon if you've found the problem. -- USNG: 16TDN2870 Find your USNG coordinates: USNGWeb |

| I agree. I'd be more concerned about re-setting the connections at the end's, and using gel filled but splices instead of those cheap plastic ones sealed with caulk. I'd also remove the jump through the junction box with exposed nuts and bolts in favor of the TID. Ideally What I'd like to do is set a router at the NID and test for a week or two to see if the problem persists. That would prove that it's for the linemen and not even the apartment's wiring problem. I personally think that it's on the farther end or at some of these dropkicked, ran over, open and rusted through green junction boxes outside 3 or 4 hundred feet from here. -- ---- As long as superstition prevails, we will fall short of eradicating war, poverty, and hunger. -J.
