| Garden Hose Nozzles Are there any quality made ones that last more than one season anymore?
In the last 5 years I've bought 2 splitters/diverters and about a dozen nozzles. I don't leave them out during the winter but still they fail after only one season. I resorted to the simple brass twist nozzles but they too leak after a year or two. -- Stop The Mindless Killings Stop Over Fishing |

Replace the washer each year. The washers get hard and don't seal. Also make sure the end of your hose is in good condition. -- There are 10 kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't.

1 edit | reply to dolphins I have two brass twist type nozzles that are at least 10 years old. Both are still in good condition and I use them several times a week. As others have said you need to replace the washers once in awhile, but other than that I don't do anything special and they stay outside year round.
Good solid brass or 316 stainless steel nozzles are not cheap, but they will last a lifetime. Brass plated or plastic nozzles are a lot cheaper, but you need to replace them about every other year.
As for the leaks that is most likely coming from the hose threads. If you mean you can't shut off the nozzle completely try back flushing. Take the nozzle off the hose, open it full open and run water though it from the discharge end to the hose end. There may be dirt, mineral deposits, or grit lodged inside.
This one looks like a good brass nozzle and is cheaper than I paid many years ago. »www.amazon.com/Dramm-12380-Heavy···1&sr=1-1
P.S. Just noticed that nozzle is made in the USA. |

 | reply to dolphins I've got more than enough toys, but couldn't resist the Nelson Firehose nozzle. Looks like a small version of the firemans 4" hose nozzle, but made for standard gardening hoses. Big giant handle for on/off control, twists for stream control. Heavy duty brass, rubber and plastic construction.
And expensive enough that it will make you put it away instead of leaving it outside connected all the time. $20-$30, got mine at Sams club last year... |

I resorted to the simple brass twist nozzles but they too leak after a year or two. the nozzles have to be greased at least once per season, preferably 2 times per season, you do that by opening the nozzle as far as it will go, until it comes apart, then you'll see the O-rings that need to be greased with teflon or silicone grease, sold as O-ring grease in pool supply stores. do that and the O-rings won't wear out for a very long time!. |

| reply to dolphins WTF, I've been to 5 different hardware stores and can't find one that sells a nozzle that is made in the USA. I have to order one online.
I did find an old brass twist type nozzle in my garage that leaks a bit from the end because it no longer seats tightly when closed. For now I just have to turn off the water supply at the splitter to keep it from leaking. -- Stop The Mindless Killings Stop Over Fishing |

| reply to dolphins Forget "quality". They are all the same. Making consumables that last isn't a profitable business. That being said - look for the $3-5 nozzles at Walmart and Target. Or even at the $1 store, Big Lots, Harbor Freight... Look for packs of 2-3, the cheapest that you can get. They will break anyway after 1 year, but at least they are cheap. |
