Using an Actiontec Rev D router as MOCA bridge/access point?

I just had my rev D Actiontec replaced due to flaky wireless connections. Verizon indicated that they no longer require returns of this older rev D model so I should recycle locally.

Here is my question. Can I reconfigure this Actiontec rev D to act as an access point and MOCA bridge for a room where I need a wired connection? This would save me the $60 a Moca bridge costs on Amazon.

I just want to make sure it does NOT try to fight my replacement Actiontec rev F for the WAN IP connection.

Yes, you can:

Follow the instructions in part 2 of the following FAQ:

Thanks again. Using the instructions in part 2 worked fine but a couple caveats should be noted.

1. In section 2.2 it talks about setting the remote router's IP address to an IP address on the same subnet as your primary router. Well I actually got an error about the address can not be in the range, so I first had to disable DHCP and then it allowed me to use an IP address of my chosing. Not a big deal but not everyone may be able to figure this out if they get the error. This is actually step 2.4, so I think this step should be flipped with step 2.2.

2. In section 2.3, once I disabled the coax WAN connection, I was no longer able to access the remote router's admin pages until I connected it to the primary router via my coax wiring and used the new static IP address I had assigned. I verified this issue by resetting the remote router to factory default and then disabling coax WAN as the very first step, which confirmed I could no longer access the admin page if disconnected from the coax wiring, i.e. computer plugged directly into one of the LAN ports on the remote router. I'm not sure why that is but I'm interested to see if others also had this issue.

Otherwise it works like a charm, so I'm happy.

1) The real issue here is not changing the DHCP address range. The default DHCP range is .2 to .254, so there is no room for static assigned addresses. There is feedback posted regarding this. I need to update the FAQ.

2) This is known behavior with the Westell. I've not heard of this occurring in the Actiontec.

I "enjoyed" the same issues as DGGSLF. Also, I learned that I needed to be more patient than I was -- to give the second router time to, I guess, negotiate, with the first.
