Re: Clearing my Gmail email account? If its a privacy concern. just activate a pattern lock on the phone??? They are virtually uncrackable, and very little hassle compared to PIN codes you have to type every time.
Also your post is a bit confusing as to whether you are connecting with GMail by browser or App. --

1 edit | I never used the Gmail through the browser. As I recall, I signed in using my Gmail account to the Google Play store to download an app onto my phone.
But when I tapped the Gmail app icon under the all apps menu, I can see all my Gmail related messages despite clearing all history and cache.
I had to reset my phone to the factory defaults.
Is there something I can do?
How can I clear this without doing a total reset? |

What version of android you have?
Mine is a grey background with black fonts and not the same as you have as posted in the picture. |

But that won't delete existing undeleted mail, and the next time they log in more will be there, it will just stop it from auto checking and notifying. --

I don't believe so. As soon as one sets up a Google account, they have the option to set these sync options. Immediately turn it off and no mail will populate the inbox. |

Still seems to me if the concern is device loss/theft privacy... then other than removing GMail entirely, a pattern screen/device lock is the best overall simple solution and protect all their other data on there too. Unlike a PIN type lock you have to type every time, a pattern lock is just like signing an initial just takes an effortless second, and is very secure. --
