NY State Senator. Thomas O'Mara introduced a bill that would would require that any anonymous posts online are subject to removal if the posters refuse to post and verify their legal name, IP address and home address.
The purpose is supposedly to "fight bullying" but the law is much broader, with no restrictions on contesting the content of posted material or limitations on what can be forcibly removed under the law.
"A web site administrator upon request shall remove any comments posted on his or her web site by an anonymous poster unless such anonymous poster agrees to attach his or her name to the post and confirms that his or her IP address, legal name, and home address are accurate.
All web site administrators shall have a contact number or e-mail address posted for such removal requests, clearly visible in any sections where comments are posted."
(note - all caps text of the bill was edited to lower case text for readability)

A bill like that in Kansas would have made Kansas governor Brownback's job in tracking down a the poster of a disrespectful tweet by a high school student much easier. |

BTW I wonder if this loser has ever heard of the !st Amendment.
quote: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Oh wait, its For The Children... |

Any kid who posts on their school web site or sports team's Facebook page would be covered by this law.
Perhaps Mr. O'mara would take the lead by posting his own information and his kids' or grandkids' information on the interwebs. |

It's a very good suggestion. Modern politicians always propose things, from which they are usually going to exempt themselves... -- Keep it simple, it'll become complex by itself... |
