West pricing - take two *snap*

Hey gang, just to update on the West pricing. After taking in some feedback, we're officially changing the rates today. Here are the changes;

Cable
Express Cable 7.5 - Unlimited - changed from $39.95 to $34.95
Extreme Cable 25 - 75GB - changed from $43.95 to $39.95
Extreme Cable 25 - Unlimited - changed from $49.95 to $44.95

DSL
High Speed DSL 6 - Unlimited - changed from $39.99 to $34.99

A couple of things to note:
-existing customers who have been billed the old price, will be credited on their next bill.
-those who signed up after May 1st will be credited and moved to the new pricing scheme.
-those who were charged $25 to change speeds on DSL will be credited the $25 on their next bill.

We'll be sending out a notice soon.

A fair bit less than in Ontario? Why? I realize the speed is a touch different on my plan which is the extreme cable 38 unlimited...but $44 vs. 61, makes me curious. Is it different policies in the West vs. McGuinty's Mighty State of Hysteria?

It has to do with the different tariff rates.

I think it's two things.
1) The rates that Rogers/Videotron/Bell are charging the indie ISPs for capacity are insanely high. I'm not sure what Shaw/Telus are charging them, but I'm guessing it's a bit lower.
2) Shaw and Telus offer internet packages out west that mildly resemble competition, unlike Bell/Cogeco/Rogers/Videotron out east. Note that TekSavvy lowered their prices by $4-$5, and people were complaining that prices were too high. If you think TekSavvy cable prices in Ontario are high, then you should see what Shaw and Telus offer out west, because I don't think they're too far off.

EDIT: Or... what TSIMartin said.

Yeah those rates in the west are much better....

I guess Shaw is less greedy than Rogers.

Thank you Martin! Actually, even with the price increase this Feb. I'm still quite happy. Unlimited bandwidth, no throttling make it worth the money, especially with my work and Netflix. Now should it go up to something crazy like $99 a month, then I may have to drop down a tier. But no problems here (with the exception or Rogers screwing around on occasion). GO TEKSAVVY!

Once again, thanks for listening to your customers - just as you did with Ontario DSL rates.

Rogers isn't greedy, they are just revenue challenged.

...I'm guessing you're referring to umm...when they offered the 75GB tier? Because I don't remember my price ever going down with this company...mine just gets to go up and up...$29.99 to $31.99 to $34.99...I don't get to see a decrease, I get to see a 16% increase in rates...not an 11% decrease....

Again, making money on the backs of your DSL subscriber base...yet I keep coming back...hrm...

Yeah someone's gotta pay for their purchase of the Leafs...

Similarly Bell has just increased the prices on their "usage insurance plan" blocks from $5/40GB to $5/25GB.

I guess Bell has to pay for their half too lol....

Still sad at the loss of the 300gb plan, but thank you for listening and reconsidering the price.

Will be happy to continue recommending TekSavvy

Thanks Marc,

Over the course of the last month or so my bill has gone down $10/month - makes me a happy camper!

Now... if you'll just go ahead and consider making higher tiers available, I can go back to giving you guys more money

Just to confirm: even though the webpage says account changes incurs a $5 fee: it's actually $25 to go from basic cable 1 to cable 7.5 (capped or uncapped), correct?

No, I believe that it's $5 to change speeds on Shaw and $0 on DSL but I'm just going off memory now.. whatever the web site says should be accurate.. if its not.. let me know and I'll make sure it's changed but it should all have been dealt with properly.

Those speed changes are CRTC regulated and we simply do a pass through...
