 | Cell phone battery goes dead when charging. I have a Motorola em330 cell phone, yes I know old phone but does what I want it to do. I am having a problem keeping it charged. When I charge it it will charge then it will drain the battery if it still connected to the charger. What could be the cause of this? -- Caddy |

Most heavily used phones (primary phone, no land line) battery rarely lasts more than two years, especially small ones drained in a day or less.
Typical battery in those circumstances has about 3-maybe 500 recharge cycles. --

| reply to Caddyroger I'd say your battery is the problem, at least I've replaced the batteries in two phones so far. In another phone the plug on the phone actually was loose, a wonderful bad connection, and unless the plug was just right it would never charge. After a few years most batteries need to be replaced.
I bought the extended battery on purpose for one phone, and has an estimated 12 hour talk time, and standby time of nearly two weeks. After years of use I've noted the mini usb on this phone starting to get loose also. This phone is no longer made anymore, and finding the batteries for it without being aftermarket, otherwise people trying to rip you off by selling you used batteries is a needle in a haystack.
Be careful when buying batteries online, too many are just somebodies old batteries which tested good if you want oem, otherwise you're stuck with aftermarket which frequently might have less storage, along with some phones have problems with aftermarket batteries. Maybe it's just time to get a new phone. If you ask motorola directly they might still have some, but you'll pay a premium for it. -- I distrust those people who know so well what god wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires- Susan B. | reply to Caddyroger Sorry about not getting back sooner. I put a new battery that bought off Amazon. I used 3 different chargers and does the same thing. I bought a new phone so maybe that will help. Thanks for the help

Yeah that was the third possibility the phone internal charging circuitry. Several chargers and batteries that would be it.
Hope the new phone works out and can maybe use the same batteries or they are returnable. --

 | reply to Caddyroger Android and Battery backup are antonyms. Motorola replaced my battery(Defy) but guess what, I cant seem to get a backup of more than 10 hours even with the new battery. |

And actually many 3rd party batts are better that OEM... but you really shouldn't expect better performance than brand nee, especially from a phone that couldn't even go a full day without recharge... unless you just spend you entire day on the phone. --

 | Yea, that is disappointing. But how many Android phones are doing great in that dept? I am waiting for a smartphone that would do away with charging. |

Oddly RIM is trying to do just that....unknown if they can it it. I am waiting for a smartphone that would do away with charging. Well problem is people mostly who have 20/20 eye sight want them as tiny/light as possible... that doesn't make for hefty batteries.
Many of the tables (Android) do extremely well... like a solid 8 hours of Wifi video streaming. Or the Asus Transformer with its Keyboard 16 hours. In fact I often use the USB port on mine to recharge my puny iPod Touch battery that after a year has a hard time making over 4 hours. Again smaller the battery more often fully drained shorter and shorter over all lifetime.
Now Apple though a 10" screen really needs the resolution of a 60" screen, and the battery time in the new iPad 3 really sucks largely because of that. Not that the iPads have ever been real good. (Nor the iPod Touch or iPhones. Personally 720p on a 10"screen seems just fine, and really a bit more than actually needed but that's the standard. 1080p is twice the bandwidth and processing work.
