Re: In before FiOS is too expensive said by MovieLover76:Let's stop using the scare word Socialism ... Socialism is defined as an economic system in which the means of production are owned by the government. Any municipally-owned broadband provider is by definition socialist. -- Romney 2012 - Put an adult in charge. |

| Thank you for the obvious. What Republicans fail to ever address is why these large govenrment types are so much wealthier and have more competition (i.e the bedrock of capitalism) than we do. Be it broadband and wireless, I can get a significantly better, faster, and cheaper service abroad; and from a range of carriers versus our 1 in most places. |

| Likewise.
If your ilk hates government, regulation, taxes, progress, fairness, equality, innovation and so forth; while loving guns for all and the 1% amassing all the wealth, then you should move to Sudan - aka the TEAparty / Libertarian/ Republican utopia. |

| reply to pnh102 So then let's abandon all mass transit funding, all road and bridge construction, education, defense spending, welfare, social security all of which the government owns the means of production. All industrialized nations have some level of socialist programs, because some things can't or aren't adequately provided by corporations, the problem is that Socialism is a scare word, because we all use things that exist because of socialist programs, it's always a balancing act that needs to be decided by local or federal legislators, so let's stop pretending that anything that matches the definition is automatically bad. Because while some people may disagree with some of the programs, everyone has one or more of them at some point and enjoyed the rewards, it's not bad just because their is a socialist element to a project.
It's up to the representative government to decide what is going too far, if the local government of an area approves it then it's just another service.
It's fine if you disagree and think muni's shouldn't be allowed in your area, by all means fight for your side, give real arguments for your point of view and lobby your local and state representatives, but just throwing out the word socialism is NOT a valid argument. |

(Disclosure: I identify more moderate than anything else, but neither actual republican or democrat. But I would not want to take away, nor impinge, upon a persons right to purchase firearms for legal usage. It's not my money to decide. Along that line though, if I were to vote the losing side in a bond election, I couldn't complain, because at least my voice was heard by casting that ballot. If I didn't VOTE on the other hand, then I have -0- reason to open my mouth and speak) -- "He's on that Jazz, man"... |

 | reply to pnh102 Not necessarily. Public entities are just part of the equation. Private co-ops, and non-profit community organizations are also part of the socialism economic model. |
