Guys, I'm used to using No-IP for my dynamic DNS but lately that product has become nagware and I've always disliked the idea of having to keep a small client running on the PC.
Then I noticed my DIR-655 supports Dynamic DNS but I'll be damned if I can figure it out.
1. I created an account on their site for it and I log in.
2. It says I have no host so I click "Add host".
3. It then asks me for a hostname and I choose one to which it appears it'll append ".dlinkddns.com"
4. The next line shows my browser IP address which is correct but the line after that asks me for a "New IP Address". What? What IP address do they want here?
I also have my own domain and on the 655 it appears as if I can just use that. Am I correct? Can I just be home.mydomainname.com and not use a client? Won't I need BlueHost to support that?
Let start this post over. I have only used dyndns so setup might be a little different.
You account creation setup seems ok. Just make sure it ends up with your correct ip.
You then need to setup the info in the dir 655. Select the dlinkddns.com option then feel in the hostname userkey and password. And of course put check in enable. Save settings.
Thats should be it. If working it should say connected.
If you have a domain name you need to create a cname record so home.yourdomain.com points to hostname.dlinkddns.com
If you get connected you should be good to go. It will update your ip with dyndns.com.
Think you can still get free accounts with them you just have to jump through hoops to do it. I setup years ago don't use it my address anymore but router has been keeping it up do date.
Edit: well maybe they did kill off the free ones after all.
There should be no need for TeamViewer or any remote support. I've provided every datapoint.
DYNAMIC DNS SETTINGS Enable Dynamic DNS : (checked) Server Address : dyndns.com(Custom) Host Name : mydomain.getmyip.com Username or Key : myusername Password or Key : mypassword Verify Password or Key : mypassword Timeout : (hours) Status : Connected
I can get it to say Connected even with incorrect settings so that's no indicator of success.
