bizres join:2012-05-10	CPE Choice Hi, My question is about using Satellite broadband from a customer's point of view. When someone subscribes to a satellite broadband service, he's obviously to have the CPE (dish and modem) installed at his site and the provider will usually provide the CPE - whether to be be bought or leased by the customer. My question is, as a subscriber, does one have to source/use the equipment provided by the provider or is it possible to use any vsat dish and satellite modem? I know with free-to-air TV from satellite, we get a dish and a decoder and we're up and running so long as the dish is mounted correctly.

tobicat Premium join:2005-04-18 Tombstone, AZ	Yes. no and maybe. Hughes, Wildblue, exede all require you to use their equipment it is for the most part propriotory. There are some providers that use other equipment (Iderect for one) that let you buy your own from where ever you chose BUT you must still buy compatible equipment that is programmed for their system and you probably can't buy it cheaper from any one else. And if it doesn't work they are gonna blame your equipment. And again it ain't gonna be cheap.
