Re: T-Mobile doesn't have any sort of "4G"!

Because, in some areas of the US, T-Mobile HSPA+ hits 10-20 Mbps down (yes, I said 20 Mbps...I've seen it in South Florida...seen 15 Mbps in other places) and around 3 Mbps up with low latency.

Their network may suck in your area (at my location right now, and for a 40 mile radius around it, they only have GPRS). But in some places, if they had the correct frequencies for it (which they do in a few areas), the iPhone will indeed run quite a bit more smoothly on T-Mobile than on AT&T.

20 Mbps down! No way! Also T-Mobile fake "4G" uses 1700Mhz which most phones can't get. My new "4G" phone can get that but it can't get the older 3G service that was faster so it's just Edge everywhere around here.

Tmobile's 3G and "4G" network are the same thing, they both run on 1700Mhz and 2100Mhz, hspda, hspa and hspa+ can be deployed on any tower and they are backwards compatible for instance a old hspda phone can connect to a tower that has hspa+, all tmobile 3G+ phones support those bands, note that T-mobile got some 1900Mhz spectrum from AT&T so soon older iphones will be able to get 3G on t-mobile as well.

If you couldn't get 3G on your old phone then either it wasn't a t-mobile phone or 3G wasn't deployed there yet.

Correction: T-Mobile is getting more AWS spectrum from AT&T as a result of the failed merger. They're using that to deploy H+ and/or LTE. The 1900MHz spectrum that they are now using to deploy H+ has been in use since the company's inception, albeit only for GSM/GPRS/EDGE.

Sucks to be you, then, huh? Everyone else, that actually lives in a place where other people want to live, gets VERY high-speed service on T-Mobile. Often times my T-Mobile data connection is faster, much faster, than my Comcast cable internet. I regularly get over 17Mbps down/3.5Mbps upstream on T-Mobile here in Atlanta.

Actually 3G service is very strong everywhere here but those worthless 4G T-mobile phones only have a choice of 4G or Edge. I wonder if there's a firmware upgrade or something to allow them to get 3G?

You really don't understand how it works, do you? The phones utilize either HSPA+ or EDGE. An older phone, when finding an available HSPA+ network, will indicate "3G". A newer phone, finding the exact same HSPA+ network, will indicate "4G" simply because that is the string programmed into the firmware. Now, an older phone, limited by its own hardware, may not utilize the HSPA+ signal fully. Both old and new phones would indicate "E" for EDGE when they encounter only that signal. Also, different models of phones have differing sensitivities for signal levels. For instance, a friend here has a Samsung phone, it shows 3 bars in areas where my phone shows 4. Same network, same signal, just a difference in the phones.
