| [iPhone] Poor 3G Speeds on Verizon iPhone 4 I have the Verizon iPhone 4 16GB (mostly full with 3GB left) and it performs poorly on 3G. I have unlimited data but I recently added the 2GB mobile hotspot add-on. I am going to try *228 and perform an update and I'll see if that works but I am wondering if there is anything else that could be causing this. |

Have you tried one of the speed test apps? I like the official speedtest.net app:

Verizon 3G can be anywhere from 600+kbps to 1.5Mbps (on a really good day). If it's lower than 600kbps, then you might have some issues.

| It's verizon 3g, of course the speed is 'poor'. It's also available everywhere (pretty much)so you don't get 7 megs in cities and then dial up everywhere else like you do with at&t. I have both services, and verizon lte.. |

I agree. Define "poor". I get anywhere from 6.5/4.0 on Telus 3G (practically sitting under the tower) all the way down to .95/.36 on AT&T on a recent trip to Atlanta GA. That's using the speedtest.net app on my iPhone 4S. Your results may vary.

i get about 768 K / 1 meg down under the tower on my 16GB iPhone 4 (not that storage space affects its speed). |

I agree, let's define speed. I tend to get about 7Mb, which is about 800KB/sec....(so a typical 3 minute iTunes song should download in about 7 seconds (5.4 MB))

It's not CDMA. My provider uses HSPA+ which should be good enough for 21Mb but the iphone cannot do more than 7.2, I usually get between 1 & 7 but usually around 3 or more so.

| That was probably because I talked about both at&t and verizon.
Either way, while at&t has the faster 3g speeds, verizon 3g is pretty much everywhere. You get on average 1 meg speed with verizon, with at&t it's 4-7 megs in the cities and suburbs (Which they have improved on, I'll give them that), and 200 kb 500 ping edge everywhere else. |
