I would advocate swapping the channels (put the hd in the lower numbers, sd in the higher numbers). OR put them next to each other in the guide with the ability to hide SD duplicates or not. Either that or put bigger hard drives in the DVR's. I record HD whenever possible on DirecTV but we have 500GB hard drives and the HD is MPEG4 so its a little more efficient in terms of storage use.
The channels are fine where they are the SD channels Have Been there since the beginning of cable and tv its self. The channel mapping is different for city to city to keep people used to were there channels are. Millions of people would be more mad about all the channels being change around. You don't even have Comcast your in-laws just need it figure it out its not that hard.
