Black Screen Constantly on Samsung Box VOD/DVR Plus Playback

I recently got a samsung box and I want to hear if any other members of optimum are experiencing black screen problems with VOD and DVR Plus Playback.. This problem is only effecting the Samsung Box not the Scientific Atlanta Boxes and can be fixed temporarily by reseting the Samsung box but then it returns after a couple of hours.

Yes, I've been having the same issue with my Samsung Boxes. After clicking play it sits at a black screen. I had a tech out and of course they weren't able to fix it, it would happen for some on demand titles and not others. So you're not alone!

Ok good one other person. is any other people experiencing this problem because I am going to referee a top level cablevision employee to this thread to show that it is effecting multiple cablevision households. By the way thanks for your response every little bit helps.

Everything on DVR+ is copy protected. Nothing can be recorded to disk! i have tried. I can't even watch show on Windows Media center it. That is why i left CV for FIOS.

The problem I'm talking about is very specific and usually occurs a few hours after the samsung box either being powered on or rebooted it is where the screen shows a black screen when playback is initiated through DVR Plus or VOD. The problem happens in this sequence... Choose Program to watch either through on-demand choices or recorded program list through DVR Plus then the Please Wait Message will show but instead of the video showing you just get the play progress bar with no picture just a black screen. I am not talking about any transfer of the program or using alternative set-top boxes other then the Samsung Cablevision box.

Same problems, have to reboot the boxes all the time, but it doesn't happen to all of the boxes in the house. I tried swapping boxes, and then it stops, and then it happens again. I wonder if they are ever going to fix this DVR+ stuff, or should we switch to another provider. Oh wait, verizon sucks. . . . . satellite?

Swap out for sa Dvr box or regular box until its fixed

I am aware that you can swap the box as a temporary fix but I want to make cablevision aware of this daunting problem especially since cablevision has ceased to provide the scientific atlanta boxes at the optimum stores or at most tech visits that happen. There is a major bug effecting these boxes that is not resolved by switching one Samsung Box for another like most techs tend to do.

Yes I have the same issues. This is absolutely ridiculous! I am sitting here right now trying to watch my recorded dvr+ shows and an instead staring at a black screen! This is unacceptable! Also add in the horrible user interface for dvr+ and this only adds to my wanting to cancel my service with cablevision. They need to do something about this NOW or else we won't be the only ones considering leaving for another provider!

I am surprised how long this is taking to fix as well especially since cablevision wants to phase out the SA8300's but the more people who post about this problem in this thread the more people who actually call up cablevision about this problem and insist it is not an at home problem and needs to be addressed or they will cancel service the sooner this problem will be fixed. It just baffles me how cablevision would phase out the 4250's especially since there replacements are so buggy.

make a phone call to CV.
the more people that call about the same issue, the more attention they will give to the issue at hand.
a thread full of ANON users boycotting CV wont help at all, this really isnt the place for it, this is a HELP forum, i dont really see any relevant replies here to the OP's request for HELP.

Well if I ask the OP for help will he know how to fix this??? I think not. I just wanted to see how many similar experiences of the black screen are occurring so I could refer a cablevision exec in-charge of IO to this thread.

I found one workaround, if you start an on demand title using a Scientic Atlanta box and then resume the active rental on the Samsung box it works. Definitely not a solution to the problem but it works.

I appreciate your info ryan2011 however I tried this temp fix that you provided and in my situation it did not work. However this is what I wanted to find out from this thread in the first place I want to see how many different scenarios of this problem there are. I don't think the operators understand that I am already in contact with the highest guy you can speak to about IO services. I want people to post in this thread so when I send him the next email I can refer him to this thread showing real customers experiencing the issues and what temporarily can fix the issue for certain customers the more info he has the quicker the fix.

Oceanside426

@optonline.net
