[HSI] I'm trying to get Charter service, pole is in someones bac

backyard. Charter says it is my responsibility to coordinate for access. BTW the pole isn't in my neighbors backyard. I am not even sure who's backyard it is in. Isn't it owned and operated by the phone/catv company? When AT&T wanted access to fix my DSL they found and accessed the site no problem. I don't see how it is my job to contact anyone.

All (telephone, cable, cell, sewer, water, etc.) have right a ways in all states to their equipment. Charter telling you to do this is there way of saying I guess they do not want to be bothered.

You need to call the sales team again and place and order if they say your address is not serviceable and you know for a fact it is on that pole ask them how much it will cost for you to be hooked to that pole.

You do not have to contact anyone from Charter if they have room on that pole for one more hook up or if your address is serviceable it is their job not yours to go to that pole and do their work.

The area that I live in there was a DSL switch I guess a remote DSLAM on someone's property. They sold it and the new owner I guess did not want the phone company to have access to it and put up a fence with a gate and chained and locked it the phone company just cut the chain and lock.

And told the owner they have the right away.

Long story short call Charter place an order for service if they bring it up again tell them they have the right away use it not your problem.

I asked this advice on another forum and the gist was the guy is just damn lazy. He told me that they would need to being in a crane and hire 2 guys. My home is already hooked up to a cable on that pole. The problem is that the cable is too thin for the distance. it was originally made for cable tv, not internet. They need to come in an replace the cable.

Post on the Charter Direct forum and see if the guys over there can help. Since there is already a line running I do not see why this is such a big problem unless the tech they sent out is a contractor.

I work for their Business side and we would have no problem getting the line replaced for a business account. But I have no power over the residential side.

I already posted there and they are giving me the runaround. They said I need to ask the neighbor(which I am hoping the pole is in her yard) to get access. I never see her though, my neighbor across the street is supposed to get me her number. They sent out a contractor.

Could it be that Charter did not have service at that house behind you and they (neighbor) ran there own cable to the road to get access. Now you see the pole but it is a private pole that charter did not commission and is on private property.

This might explain why they are asking you to contact the neighbor.

Its probably an aerial trespass issue there is no easement from the pole in your neighbors yard to your house so you would need permission to cross their property.

It looks as if it's probably a spot pole, and your line is currently an aerial (or buried) trespass.
You have to get the property owners permission to cross it again with a new line.

Looks like you all need to do some serious tree trimming too. If utilities are in that easement, it may me nearly impossible to throw a drop through there.

I just live at the property, not own so tree trimming is out of the question. I figured it out. The techs have to get permission to enter properties, the linesmen don't. I went and mailed someone who I thought the poles property was on but it turned out that was the wrong pole. The line was there but it was cut, probably by AT&T since it wasn't used since 1985. They need to call in a 3 man crew to run new line and drop. Charter is gonna take care of it. Once the new line is in then a tech will come out and install it for me.
