| $45 lifetime discount to switch to FiOS from DSL HAs anyone received an offer from Verizon recently to switch to FIOS? My girlfriend got one recently to switch from her 1.2Mb/s DSL and POTS line to FiOS 3/1 internet and Digital voice for around $45 a month(before taxes) and including a lifetime $45 discount as long as she keeps the qualifying plan. IS it really as good as it sounds? Granted the speeds are great compared to other FiOS speeds, but it would be almost 3X as fast as her current DSL speed. Plus her monthly cost would be less. Previous offers were similar in price but would only last for the initial two year contract. Then the price would have shot up to $80 or $90 a month. This offer seems to imply that she would continue to get $45 in discounts beyond two years as long as she didn't mess with the 3/1 speeds or phone service, or add TV. |

| Verizon is notorious for making "lifetime" pricing promises disappear, even without making any service or account changes. Demand in writing what "lifetime" means and what the conditions are that could negate it before committing to it. And, if she takes it, keep that paperwork in a safe place so it can be immediately retrieved if the bill changes. Quite a few people have popped-up here reporting that their supposed "price for life" DSL was hiked and VZ denied there ever was such an offering.
Now, in reality, she may not want to lock in with an entry-level speed like that seeing how faster speeds are becoming increasingly more important...or if she decides at some point she wants to add TV service. I would price out faster speed/phone/TV plans for a few years and see if those might actually work out as better in the long run. -- "Dance like the photo isn't being tagged; love like you've never been unfriended; and tweet like nobody is following." |

The letter didn't really offer a price for life, but a $45 discount for life as long as the qualifying bundle is kept. Either way, based on the fine print, any changes to the phone service or Internet, or even adding TV to the bundle would negate the discount. She will never get TV from FiOS since she is OTA, but I could see her increasing her internet speed if she needed for work. But if that is the case then she should be having work pay for it. |

Ask the promiser if his name isn't George C. Parker.
And what good is a "discount" when they can just jack up the base rate at their whim??
Go back, and say you'll take a guaranteed lifetime RATE of $45, period.

| reply to aaronwt I pay pennies under $95, that's including taxes and fees, for my 25/25 service with their unlimited voice plan.
Not sure how a 3/1 connection + phone would be $80-90?
That $45 discount does not seem worth it, I'd want a set price, not a discount. |
