Currently coax, want to switch to ethernet

My Uverse connection is currently using coax. I want to switch to Cat5 (that is what my phone lines use).

I don't use landline phones at all, so that isn't a concern.

If I try directly connecting the red and green cables, which currently go to the coax connection, to the blue and blue/white cables, my new Motorola 3360 detects del but it won't complete the dsl sync.

Is there anything in this description that appears to be wrong?

Im getting a little confused on your post. Your Motorola 3360 is ADSL modem. Your Uverse use VDSL2 signal and that why your Motorola 3360 dont work. You have to use 2Wire 3600/3800/3801 for Uverse internet/tv.
If you want to change Coax cable into CAT5, just plug several cat5 ethernets from the 2Wire.

The rg from AT&T does the same thing.

We really need some more information before anyone can be of real help. What modem do you have? What are you trying to accomplish?
It sort of sounds like you're trying to switch from a 2wire modem that is served sync from the NID via coax to a different modem changing the connection from the NID to twisted pair?

That is correct. My current Uverse is set up using coax with a 2Wire. I want to use a different modem so that I can get rid of the 2wire and rental costs.

You can get 2Wire 3600hgv which it is your to keep. Or you want really small modem with no WIFI which is Motorola 2310-51-1ATT. this modem is very rare. You can get this

Do you only have internet? If you have IPTV, you must use the rented optiom

The VDSL2 Uverse requires the mac address of the device to be registered to your account. You wouldn't be able to get another modem to sync up unless you called tier 2 or had a tech visit.

It also requires an ATT firmware with the correct certificate(s) for .1x authentication -- uverse doesn't use PPPoE, so that's how you're authenticated. I really wish they'd stop that crap, but they've got to do everything they can to make you buyrent their junky hardware.

The first question that needs to be answered is which U-verse services do you have. The type of services determines which modem can be used.

I only have Internet, nothing else.

So if I call them and give them the Mac address, that should work?

Why doesn't the 2wire work through the ethernet connection?

Also, how do I get to tier 2? When I call or chat, I get weird responses, like questions about my wireless network or if I am asking about getting a faster connection to help my problem. They don't seem to understand (or maybe I need to ask a different way) that I want to switch from a coax connection to ethernet.

First, lets back up - It sounds like you want to use phone wiring instead of coax to bring the VDSL2 connection through to the modem, correct? That's not "ethernet", the generic term is "twisted pair". VDSL will be on CAT3 or better. Ethernet is what comes OUT of the modem and goes to your computer - it also rides on twisted pair (but that's supposed to be CAT5 or better).

If you're on coax, there's a coax balun in the NID.

If yours was installed like mine, the balun is connected to the telco side of the NID. You have to completely disconnect the balun and connect a test jack back to the pair to the wires where the balun once was. The wire terminals on the outside of the balun are filtered for POTS and won't work.

That means you either need to break into the telco side, or call AT&T to remove the balun.
