Re: will SL follow Comcast? no cap & charge user based on usage?

$10 per 50 GB is pretty reasonable pricing, not that I ever go over 1/5 of the current cap.

It sounds good, till you go a few terabytes over I guess.

I mean sure, it's not as bad as cell phones, but we are talking land lines here. If land lines ever get as expensive as cell phones, we are all going to be in trouble, imo.

well right now they like to call it usage based billing, but in actuality it's more like the supply and demand model where the price will keep going up until people are no longer buying it (can't or won't is in material)

i would also LOVE to understand how a single or 2-3 person family can download multiple TB on a regular cable connection. i'm sure you could quote some math numbers to me, but realistically, how do you get to a couple TB of usage in one month?

Um... Actually using the service that you're paying for? It makes no sense to have broadband if you don't use it. If all you do is check the news, weather, and your e-mail, get dial-up. Broadband is unnecessary for those users, and ISPs are cashing in because those same users still want the 632 TB/sec connection if it's available. It's some kind of e-peen nonsense, I guess. Anyway, it doesn't stop price increases and/or caps and restrictions that affect those who, for the money spent, use the service the way they like. Users on either end of the spectrum make ISPs money, and they're not going to give that up without a fight.

That really doesn't go to show how you're using a few TB of data in a month as a residential user. Sure I don't doubt we'll get there sometime in the future, but the VAST majority of people simply aren't using a huge amount of data like that currently.

And actually if all you do IS check the news and weather and email, then you'll still need broadband, or does MS support long term connections as you download a service pack on dial-up? How long do you have to wait if your son or daughter sends you even a small 15 megs of pictures through email? Hell, show me someone today that the absolute ONLY thing they do online is news/weather/email. No software updates of any kind, no background data transfer from phones or other devices......

Dial-up is more of an on demand, last ditch backup. Stopped being viable a LONG time ago.
