 | Here, use this test server:
|
 | that test site is highly inaccurate.. it says my download speed is 3Mbps, but if I use Testmy.net, I'm getting 16Mbps.. |
|
 | said by TexasRebel:that test site is highly inaccurate.. it says my download speed is 3Mbps Doing your tests (speed or downloads) in Dallas is an illusion...when your Exede Server is located in Dallas.
I'm using Phoenix Exede Server...and now, to do a Testmy in Dallas, my internet path takes me to LA then to Dallas.
Even a person I know in Kansas City with fast fiber can't get over 10 mbps via Phoenix test site.
Hence, when I do a Testmy via Dallas, my test reflects what actual speed is over a great distance. When I use this test site:
»speakeasy.net/speedtest/
and do a LA or Dallas test, there will be differences, depending upon time of day/evening. Just now, 10:43 PM CDT
LA Download Speed: 2141 kbps (267.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 558 kbps (69.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Dallas Download Speed: 1141 kbps (142.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 516 kbps (64.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
I think Phoenix has bottlenecks...not Exede...but Phoenix. |

 | Yep, 11pm cst but bad for the past 3 hours
I was hoping an equipment failure so this congestion problem doesn't look good right now only 2 months into Exede HN test site and the others are showing similar results
haha I can't even figure out your link to test there |

It's a legit test with your POP in Dallas, and Testmy in Dallas.
There are alot of server farms in Dallas; consider your self lucky!
As I have stated before, its about the user experience, not the test speeds. Are web pages loading within several seconds, is Youtube buffering...etc....during primetime. Expecting a 100 Mbyte file to download quickly during primetime is not a realistic expectation on any satellite ISP since Traffic Cop may bite down on these types of downloads.
Hence, speed tests can be an illusion during primetimes since Traffic Cop can and will take hold and reduce speed results. But, as I noted the other day, my download speed was around 900 kbps during primetime, but 360p Youtube video loaded just fine. |
|
 | DrSL, you are heading for the speed of Value Pack during prime time. It would be ironic if Viasat-1 becomes slower than the older satellites. |
|
 | My slowdown continues and I'm NOT happy about this. Dish Network gets a call Monday.
Now I must be more diligent with the time of when delay crap starts. HN 7000 years ago did at EXACTLY 3:01pm cst until midnight, junk speed continued for 2 months before I said goodbye.
Now WB plays the same game haha I'm on the beta test team for Jupiter and won't be able to give any opinion, has to be that way. |

 | Doing tests on Hughes test server represents skewed results (aka biased).
Do a tracert to this site, and then you will know why. Even Testmy's site owner will tell you to find closet speed test server you can find.
Just the facts... |

Are you referring to TMN, CA3LE (owner) a friend, my thread dated 14 Dec and continues to remain artificiality HIGH with HN. 4,600 speed tests stored online there after many years.

Having lower speed results does not mean Level 1 traffic is choking; I showed the other day how Youtube was not buffering, but I had a lower speed test result.
Network Management Policy Exede by ViaSat ... ... ... The network gives lowest preference to software updates, large file transfers, and similar applications (Level 3 Traffic) where, due to the longer duration of the overall transaction, longer delays are more acceptable than for the other levels of traffic (above). During congestion, subscribers may experience longer transfer times for large downloads.

With legacy on my previous beam, forget about Youtube during primetime...just web surfing.
WB-1:113 was never fully loaded...and its eastern beam side is in Exede's 12 terrority. Hence, those "eastern" folks leaving WB-1-113 get Exede 12, and those on western side get Exede 5. In other words, I doubt if WB-1: 113/163 will get loaded. |

Speak Easy is all over the board now 6-28Mb/s so it's losing my respect. So did another, Only true test just now File hippo 118MB file at 14.4Mb/s so I'm happy. HN remains my base reference, PM me as I have an extra site number if you wish to log in.
A few hours later will check again and expect a major slowdown, sad to say |

Again, Level 1 and Level 2 traffic is given priority over Level 3. |

Again, Level 1 and Level 2 traffic is given priority over Level 3. Yes I also have HN SBS 3, actually since the 6000 modem. Only some are seeing a slowdown, my 2 years now with the 9000 modem has been great, only occasionally in congestion hours 950kb/s. Normal is 1440kbps.
For a 3 month period my/our speed was increased to 3.4-4Mb/s and was fun in the 5 hour free zone. I'm back to normal but many others still maintain the double+ speed.
Btw I've been selected to beta test Jupiter Gen4, quite an honor. Sorry can't and won't share as beta means be prepared to have some bugs, a fact with any beta. Wouldn't be fair to form an early opinion. Besides Excede also have cell G3 so no worries if Echostar 17 went down. NOTE the last sentence, they be watching you ------------------------------------ III. Confidentiality: You understand and agree that all products, features and functions included in this Beta Test, as well as all aspects of the Beta Test, are confidential. You WILL NOT share with any person other than Hughes any information whatsoever about the Beta Test including information regarding pricing; information on any Service or Equipment issues or the results of the Beta Test; or any other fact or opinion about the product and/or service. This prohibition extends to communication to members of the press, and includes postings to newsgroups, chat groups, public forums (such as DSL Reports), emailings, or media. |
