Survived Cord-Cutting

I cut the cord with Comcast cable TV last month and downgraded to the Economy Plus broadband tier with no cable TV service. Hooked us up with a Roku and Netflix (streaming and the 2 DVD option).

The wife hasn't killed me yet.

Sorry... I should have made it clear that the Economy Plus was for the broadband Internet. I have no cable TV service from Comcast.

I did put up an outdoor antenna and am using some DVR software to record off-air TV.

Probably because some people like LIVE sports only on some non-OTA cable channels.

I'm glad to not be one of those people. I should make it clear I downgraded to Comcast's Economy Plus Broadband tier. I have no cable TV services.

The only sport I watch is SEC College Football. I won't drop it until I can watch all Alabama games online in HD. I picked up a used Xbox 360 because you can watch several games at the same time in the split screen view.

I do not, have not, and will not work for AT&T/Comcast/Verizon/Charter or similar sized company.

welcome to our world.
I have basic cable and Internet of three years going. I do not use Netflix is I may be paying for a subscription weeks or even months without broadcast tv. My average TV viewing is 1 to 2 hours a week.

Thanks.

My big problem with basic cable is very puerile. Back when I moved into my house and got Comcast TV years ago, I was able to directly connect the cable to the TV and watch many things in HD. A couple years back they stopped me from doing that and made us use these stupid little boxes that took away the HD. If I wanted the HD I had been getting, I'd have to rent yet another set-top box. For some reason, this left a very foul taste in my mouth. Plus with little kids running around, having yet another box with wires dangling out the back isn't a practical idea.

I'm finding that Netflix is more fun for the occasional children's show (when they do watch TV) as well as for catching up with old shows that I wanted to watch but are no longer on TV. For the ridiculously low price, I figured I lost nothing by getting it.
