Bay City, MI lineup changes and new HD

Starting June 12 we have some changes coming.

Analog channels are moving:
HSN from CH.2 to 13
WAQP from CH13 to 2
CSPAN from 21 to 998
Style moves to Expanded Basic Digital Only
Big Ten Network moves to Expanded Basic Digital Only
Golf Channel moves to Expanded Basic Digital Only
VH1 moves to Expanded basic Digital Only
Bloomberg is new and being added as CH 180 on Digital View

New HD to be added:
668 HSN HD
785 QVC HD
675 G4 HD
676 GSN HD
677 MTV2 HD
678 TV Land HD
687 Hallmark Movie Channel HD
540 HBO2 HD
541 HBO Signature HD
542 HBO Family HD
543 MoreMAX HD
544 ActionMAX HD
545 Showtime Too HD
546 Showtime Showcase HD
547 Showtime Extreme HD
548 TMC X-TRA HD
560 Starz in Black HD
561 Starz Kids & Family HD
562 Starz Cinema HD
563 Encore HD
564 The Movie Channel HD

Also, according to the flyer, it seems new channels on smartphones/tablets options are coming too. It doesn't say when but examples are CNN, TNT, TBS, and BTN.

Seems like a damn smart move on Charters part to get people to pony up for a cable box here by moving BTN to a digital tier. No way in hell people here in Big Ten country can go without their college teams. I know I couldn't. I am curious as to why they would waste bandwidth on HSN and QVC in HD. Second year in a row we got 21 new HD channels. Hopefully this translates soon to other areas that haven't been so lucky.

yeah why we have qvc on the hd digital tier already... im sure all these shopping channels charter and all co.'s that carry 'em get a cut of the revenue so Im sure thats it.

Yeeyup and still no WGN America go figure, thank goodness we still pay the same $ as everyone else who have more.

Any ideas anyone why WBSF broadcast station is not offered in HD? I thought it was a must carry?

And buried on the 2nd or 3rd page of the latest billing statement, they are making standard digital receivers FREE, those people wont really have to pony anything up for BTN or other channels moving to a digital tier.

"Standard Digital Receiver & Remote from $1.40 to $0.00 for a decrease of ($1.40)"

By doing that, they can effectively remove all analogs and nobody really has to complain about losing channels, as they can get a free SD receiver at each outlet.

so do we all truck down to the local charter office for a big box or is charter doing the small in line digital box like comcast has?

If I had to guess, I would bet that Charter is going to use the DCT-700 as its free digital box. Its the same unit basically as the tuning adapter that we get for cable card devices (and free also). Just a guess.

You are correct sir. I missed that. Kinda figured they would have put that on the new channels notice.

Why not use the new dcx multi-room dvr (dcx3501/3510M) and non dvr (dcx 3200/3300M) stb's as the new product for the entire footprint with new software (microsoft mediaroom?). Then retire the old standard DCT and DCH receivers.

Actually the DCT-700 is full fledge digital receiver with PPV. What Comcast gives away for free is actually called a DTA or Digital Tuning Adapter. No PPV - One way only.

I hope Charter bought some extra boxes. In late December I changed my TV package and got rid of the Charter PVR (I have a Media Center PC + extenders anyway) and tried to return it for a standard HD box and the Auburn office didn't have any and thought it might be a few weeks before they did. I was able to switch my package to a Cablecard only package and saved a few more dollars.

It looks like Charter hasn't updated that link. Because on my Bill it says starting July 1st Standard digital receivers are reduced to 0.00 from 1.40.

Haven't updated the link? It says Starting June 26th. SD receivers have always been $5 in my area total. I just rechecked and I got the same thing in my bill you just didn't read it correctly. Read the parts in bold.

Effective July 1, 2012, the following TV Equipment Rental pricing will be adjusted - Standard Digital Receiver & Remote from $1.40 to $0.00 for a decrease of ($1.40), HD or DVR or Multi-Room Primary Receiver & Remote from $6.40 to $5.00 for a decrease of ($1.40), Multi-Room Secondary DVR Receiver & Remote from $3.40 to $5.00 for an increase of $1.60 Interactive Guide Services fee from $3.60 to $5.00 for an increase of $1.40

Since you have to get the Interactive Guide Service when you get a digital box you are still going to pay $5 total.

Just get a contract that reduces the cost to 0. I haven't paid for my hd dvr for over 4 years. But for the analog people with worries, they have this (Standard Digital Receiver & Remote from $1.40 to $0.00) quote.

But you still have to pay for the Interactive Guide services which will now be $5. There is no getting out of that.

New channels are all working good for me. We really need a channel realignment. It's even more confusing trying to figure out what are HD channels and which aren't without actually going to that channel.. I don't know how hard it would be on Charters end to realign them all but I think in the end it would be completely worth it to have all the HD channels in their own numerical section.

And group all the movie HD channels together, not leaving the original 4 in the 77x range while all the others are in the 5xx range. I dont think its too difficult, and I think they can even mirror a channel on multiple logical channel numbers to a time to get people accustomed to them.

Smart move on their part; bundling cable and internet makes a compelling choice over satellite but the free use of receivers makes it a slam dunk.

No they aren't try reading. I've explained this before why don't you READ.

Now it is IMPOSSIBLE to a Standard digital receiver without also having to get the Interactive Guide Service and thus be charged the Interactive Guide Services fee which will now be $5. So at the end of the day you will still be paying $5 for a box like you do now.
