Vet recommended the Ortho along with other eradication procedures. Bomb house, wash pet bedding, vacuum carpets. Believe the yard treatment is good for 3 months. Took a while but finally got the infestation under control. |

Fleas are like mosquitos-they go after some more than others. They love my malinois for some reason. (You probably get to work with the professional ones!) |

They like anything else that works have been banned for residential use (since 2004) but it's still available for agricultural use so you may be able to find some. |

We had 4 cats and fleas were real bad every year. Bug bombs, dipping the cats and spraying outside only helped some.
Diazinon broadcast on the yard solved the problems.

iknowPremium join:2012-03-25 | reply to exocet_cm sentry fiproguard keeps the fleas from getting on your pets, and will kill any that are on them, without the food they get from your pets(blood) they will die off. fleas hate this stuff, and will avoid being near it!. |

| reply to exocet_cm Me personally, I would forget all the other advice and go with Diatomaceous Earth. If you use any of the other products mentioned you will also kill off the earthworms that keep your yard aerated, nitrogenated and fertilized (which makes for healthier grass). |

whizkid3Premium,MVM join:2002-02-21 Queens, NY kudos:9 | reply to exocet_cm Your best bet is to have a company come in and spray the yard, trees, etc. They have access to stronger insecticides and will ensure they get them. Consider getting your two next door neighbors to have it done at the same time; and you can get a discount (and ensure that the fleas are not just going to jump back over the fence.)
Frequent vacuuming in the home helps as well. The fleas that get on your dog will leave their eggs in the house; the sofa, and everywhere your dog goes. If you vacuum every day; they'll be gone before they hatch. |

Re: How do I kill fleas in my yard? before all the new drugs and applications we had a long haired dog who would get fleas. To rid house we used bug bombs. To prevent bugs for hitching a ride - vet prescribed preventative daily doses of brewers yeast on top of her food and garlic pills. |

| reply to exocet_cm Have you ever considered using a flea and tick prevention for your dog. My vet highly recommends Frontline Plus for this. So if your dog is anywhere besides your yard, they will still be protected. -- Good judgement comes with experience...Experience comes after bad judgements |
