That's sorta like paying the bully that beats you up everyday because he protects you from other bullies. You are better off not paying anyone and getting your butt kicked all the time or fight back but at least you'd have your money!

If I were a Verizon customer, i'd surely make a nice return on my investment only to faster and faster give it back to them.

That's a bad analogy.

I invest for my family and my retirement. VZ is a relatively small portion of my portfolio. I pay for VZ cellphone and Internet access because I need them for work. There are no bullies or "insurance policies" involved.
