My two year contract is up and I am going month to month for a while. Right now you can get FIOS internet only ("naked FIOS") for about $54 mo for 15/5 (lowest speed) confirmed yesterday. With att and vz its very possible to be paying 300.00 mo in "connection and content" charges. Taxes alone on my triple play were over 11.00 mo in CA. The land line has to go and Ill have to stick with cell only. Cable cutters are real esp. for those that dont watch sports on tv. Its sad as we lobbied hard for fios in our city and first got it in 11/08. Another thing I was told by customer retention dept yesterday (now called "cancel elite" (lol what a stupid name)) is that if you move out of a vz service area you are still charged ETF. lol. never used to be that way! Basically they way they have the pricing set up you have to get double or triple play as it ends up only costing a few dollars more. Oh and dont try to get a cheaper phone plan. All they have is unlimited everything. No measured service or dial tone only offered.
Basically I think FIOS and fiber (to the home) is great. But at the end of the day all you want is a reasonable speed and a reliable connection. thats it. This 100mb stuff is nuts (and stupid expensive) unless you have some very unique needs. Plus some websites are just slow due to their own connection problems. -- Lakewood Accountability Action Group | »www.LAAG.us | Demanding action and accountability from local government
I think you are spot on... no one is going to care if it's fiber to the azz. They are going to pay what they can afford and best cost for them. They won't care if it's DSL, wireless, FTTN, FTTP, or whatever. People are going to pay what they can afford and gives them the best bang for the buck.
