I've had tmobile for about 7 years. I've tethered multiple times and have never been questioned/charged for it. But I run aftermarket roms. Do those do anything to hinder tmo from knowing if I am tethering or not? Im just curious really.

they do. and the Wifi Calling is free, and the Wifi Hotspot on the phone. I've used them for over 2 years and was NEVER questioned about it either.

Unless you're on a legacy plan. Then it still counts against your minutes. No additional charge to use the feature though (unlike tethering)

there was notice some time ago that it was free for all. My phone at the time even got notice that it was free.

It's unlimited for Even More and Even More Plus and newer plans IIRC. Older plans, which mine is, are not eligible. It's free to use, but still counts against your minutes. Their documentation states as such.

There's no hope for you now..

After-market ROM.. aka.. Cyanogenmod, Energy, etc. There's plenty on XDA. They breathed new life into an old Alltel Hero that is now a SIP/Skype WiFi Phone. I also installed CM9 on a Samsung Captivate. Darn thing is freakin' sweet now on Straight Talk.

Just have to wait for them to release CM9 for the D2G. If VZ trashes my data plan, I'm unlocking the GSM side of my phone and switching it to ST.
