| So did I - but where will they be next year? I decided to stop stressing on who was gonna be buying out TMO, and just move to another network. I went from an ancient Blackberry Curve 8900 that they charged me 400 dollars for and a two year contract, plus the extra 20 per month for Blackberry junk.
Now I have a modern phone with Android 2.3, paid 220 dollars with tax for the phone, and now 37 dollars and change for my new service.
I won't do a contract phone again - there are too many disruptive technologies to stick to a carrier for even a year. I have also noticed others are sick of the contract idea, as what does it really get you anymore? Used to be that a company would essentially GIVE you a phone to sign up for two years - now, they want you to buy the phone, and then agree to pay them for two years? Why again?
I used to think that prepaid was strange, or the "drug dealer" phone. Now, I see it as a smarter fiscal decision, as I am went from 82 dollars a month, to about 38 dollars per month, and have similar or better service. |

I don't know where you are but here in the Phoenix area the service is terrible if you are trying to use 4G since there's nothing but slow Edge service everywhere. Calls and texting are fine but nothing on my new "4G" Android phone will work unless I'm on wi-fi at home. I don't know how they can get away with all the false advertising about "4G" being fast when all they did was rename the old 3G to "4G" and it's even slower than before. Even if I go to an area of town where I can actually get the fake "4G" it's still just 2.7Mb. That's fast enough for most things to work OK but in lots of areas they have nothing but Edge at 130Kb or so and you can't even check you account status at that speed.
I used to be able to get 3Mb with 3G on my old Blackberry but I can't even get that now! |
