insane high upload

i just got fibe installed today, parents wanted the tv and therefore needed the internet

but the uploads are insane every gig downloaded it seems to do 2-10 times in the upload no matter who it is.

there will be 0% chance of staying under the cap if this keeps up

even the installer used more then a gig in upload just on the install,

what in the world is going on?

»puu.sh/uMgN.png (tech is the only one who touched port 4 for the install)

even mine on port 3 is insane, my download is also higher then i expected for just surfing (few videos) and patching a few games. buit is still within reason compared to the upload

That even accurate? I'd try and get a DDWRT router and compare. I really have UBB since it's not regulated, and the fact that they can't tell you how much you used when leaves you at their mercy.

Could also be LAN traffic... doesn't really mean anything.

Is it possible a machine on your network is infected by something that is spitting out a lot of traffic? That could explain the numbers

not a chance, it only got installed today, an infection would not hit as soon as the router is connected

Never say it's not possible. I have seen machines get affected as soon as they get a network connection. I would still rule it out as a possibility. What happens when you disconnect all machines except say 1 such as a tablet or a phone or something that will allow you to check the stats Page?

The day the technician installed the new modem for 15/10 plan and configured the modem for Fibe TV my upload was 8 times higher than usual. Next day and since then things got back to normal. Your install was yesterday so check Bell's meter tomorrow for today's upload and then you'll know if you have a problem.

PS. I get 13.43 MB UL and 28.28 MB DL just for a single test on speedtest

Unless the computer is brand new, hasn't previously downloaded torrents, hasn't had a previously used flash drive attached, doesn't have anti-virus software installed that is up to date or hasn't been scanned recently, the statement "it only got installed today" is meaningless.

Studies back in 2008 put the average time to infection at 4 minutes. And I've heard of tests (usually in a corporate environment, though) where a new, unprotected machine was infected in under 30 seconds of being connected to the internet.

It looks like you are viewing your wireless interface and lan interfaces: not all the usage shown there is internet traffic.

For example, do you have a computer on the wireless interface that is a server that you view video or listen to music from? If so, that computer will transmit more data than it receives but that data would never go to the internet so you don't get billed for that.

The other thing is that the stats page could have a bug showing the download in the upload field and the upload in the download field... crazier things have happend!

You need to look at the WAN interface stats if you're going to compare that with your usage at bell.ca...

If you're worried check the usage on the site or call in, they can tell you how much you've actually used
