Re: Vince Li faces review board

My opinion is not important after all it is only an opinion on the internet... What is discussed here really has very little significance in the real world... Nor do I keep score on who is wining...

What is important is public opinion on the matter and how Ottawa will react....After all Harper's "tough on crime" stance is one of the things he seems intent on making happening... And we all saw what happened to the gun registry after his promise to get rid of it...

Cheers

Timslaw.ca is always open. It's website... Show me a website that is only open on week days?

You can visit your MP on Monday silly...

Why? As I said, this hot air until legislation is proposed.

Public opinion never trumps the Charter. Nor will the PM.

Not so sure I want to even post in this thread.
Does seem to be two events getting all mixed up.

One is the first violent occurrence of a mentally ill person and deemed NCR. As stated all suffer in this instance and is the cost of living in an open society combined with an emphasis on material bling and sport stars and not on teachers and those mentally ill for example.

The other is the repeat offences that we have witnessed recently that bring into question how we treat mentally ill patients after the first occurrence. The recent incident in Halifax pointed out that someone with a very violent past went missing past curfew and whereabouts were not known. Even lately a mental patient was missing that previoiusly tried to steal a baby. In both cases a locating ankle or wrist bracelet type device which I consider reasonable caution could have saved horrible losses or consideratble concern in our society. But there are those stating that is in humane. Somewhere we have to strike a balance between the rights of the citizen and the safety of our neighbourhoods. No easy answers.

Finally and to be controversial probably with Gone and DKS.
Please tell me what is the difference in the mental illness between LI, and the pig farmer that murdered all those women in BC?? Actually its not controversial I am rather simply seeking to get educated on that aspect which may go some way in educating others at the same time. I think its a crucial point or difference to understand to help work through these issues. I know I have lots to learn!!!

I think it is a very sincere and honest question... I've heard it argued that most people who commit crimes (I said post and not all) suffer from some sort of mental illness..

Perhaps not Li but there seems to be some public concern over child killer Guy Turcotte possibly being released...

This thread is about Vince Li, not Guy Turcotte. They were completely different circumstances with different facts to each case. If you want to discuss the finer points of the Turcotte case, create a separate thread and have at it.

Have YOU not noticed that I am the originator of this thread AND as the OP I will decide what is on topic and not YOU... 'Nuff said...

Then you have just admitted to and proved my point that you wouldn't understand proper context if came around and hit you in the head like a brick. It also shows your lack of communication skills by shifting the topic to something completely unrelated to the discussion you brought up because, quite frankly, you have been shown how ignorant you are on the topic and not in a position to discuss it further.

As for Vince Li being a danger, in his current state he is not. His doctors have already said that he has a less than 1% chance of ever re-offending. The problem is that his past violent act while off medication means that he has the potential to be a danger again if not medicated. If we as a country had a properly-funded mental healthcare system and gave people with mental illnesses the care and respect they deserve, Vince Li could theoretically live out a normal non-confined life with the support needed to monitor his medication and ensure it's working.

Problem is that we don't live in that kind of country, and the ignorance and sheer ideological stupidity demonstrated in this thread by certain posters has clearly and definitively shown that we have a long long way to go before we ever get there. For that reason, we have no choice but to keep Li living at a mental health facility where is closely monitored on an ongoing basis.

Insulting when logic fails is usually the domain of the defeated...

I can tell you this ... no insults can rattle me for the past 5 months have been the most difficult of my life and your immature attempts to do so will fail... Unlike the past when I would get upset easily....There are much more important things in this life and sadly I lost just about all I cared for with my Mom's passing...

Holding my Mom in my arms when she passed broke and taught me what really matters in life... your taunts mean nothing to me and show how desparate a person you are to prove you are the big man on the internet...

I can sense there is a lot of emotion in your post as this topic you obviously care about so let's dispense with the kid school tactics and behave as men....

I think you are much better then this....

Cheers
