Re: Sipgate US down? said by ArizonaSteve:Well I signed up with voip.ms and setup the phone. It seems to be working OK so far even though voip.ms doesn't give out enough info to configure the phone. It's an Aastra phone and they have sample setups and not all the info is filled in but since I've done the configuration several times I know what to put in. Say, do any of you guys know if there's a way to test the phone with voip.ms? It shows the phone is Registered but that seems to be all it does. With Sipgate I could ring it from the website or dial 10005 or 0005 to test it (when they were up and running). No smart answers please, just useful information if you know something. There are a few phone numbers you can test with for free...
Voicemail: *98 (need to set up a voicemail box, but the system should always pick up and at least ask for your mailbox number) Echo Test: 4443 DTMF test: 4747 (after the beep, press numbers on your keypad and they should be read back to you)
Make sure your phone's dialplan allows dialing these numbers. |

 | Though I'm not a voip.ms customer, I would guess that you could:
1. Set up a couple of sub-accounts, register your IP phone to one and a softphone / smartphone app / ATA to the other, and call back and forth between them.
2. Call in from the outside world via a SIPBroker PSTN gateway.
3. Get a free DID from Callcentric or IPKall and point it at your account.
4. Get a free iNum from VoIP.ms and call it via iNum gateway or other provider's account, or call other iNums, including e.g. PSTN numbers via Localphone or Rebtel.
There are also other free test possiblities. |

| reply to ArizonaSteve said by ArizonaSteve:Say, do any of you guys know if there's a way to test the phone with voip.ms? For outbound calls, dial this iNum number which is an Echo test: 011-883-5100-0000-0091
Notes: 1) It begins with 011 as this is technically an international call (although free), and 011 is one of the ways to dial such on Voip.MS.
2) This must be enabled in your dial plan of the ATA or IP phone. If it is programmed for [011-] calling it should work.
3) On the Voip.MS dashboard you must ALSO authorize calls to [iNum] numbers just as you would authorize them to the US, Canada, or The Gambia. On the dashboard it is this way:
Account Settings--->Account Restrictions--->Allow calls to countries (That is, iNum will be listed as a country).
-----------------------------------------
For inbound calls:
On the Voip.MS dashboard: Get a free iNum DID.
DID Numbers--->Order DID's--->iNum DID's--->iNum
Route this iNum DID to your main account, to which your phone is registered.
The iNum DID will have the format 883-5100-xxxx-xxxx
Then:
Take your cellphone, or your girlfriend's phone, and call the iNum Access Number near you. For Phoenix, Arizona it is (602) 354-9444.
When you hear the woman's voice, dial the 883-5100-xxxx-xxxx iNum number, and your Voip.MS phone should ring. Answer it as you would a regular call.
-----------------------------------------
I wish you success and longevity, with Voip.MS. |

| reply to ArizonaSteve If you guys were upset about what I said about Sipgate you are really going to hate what I have to say about voip.ms! Yes 4443 works to test it. I thought it was working properly at first but then discovered that I can't call it, I just get a busy signal. I can configure the phone to either call out or receive calls but not both at the same time. After 2 days of trying every possible configuration and about 40-50 emails to voip.ms tech support it still doesn't work! |
