 | [iO] Optimum App - External Display Is there anyway around using the Optimum App for laptop with an external display?
My laptop in my office has a broken screen so I use it as a desktop replacement and hook it up to a monitor.
I would love to use the Optimum App on this laptop without the external display restriction.
Thanks in advance. |

 | Due to 1 or 2 of the following:
1) Licensing restrictions 2) Do not want to cut into set-top box rental revenues. |

1) Licensing restrictions 2) Do not want to cut into set-top box rental revenues. Cablevision does not make much revenue for settop boxes if any. keep in mind cablevision has replacement settops sitting at optimum store locations for replacements. Then count the ones at peoples homes. the fee they charge i think would barely cover the one at your house not including any replacements that you have had to get and the salaries of the techs who sit and have to fix those boxes.
Cablevision has said that it would like to not have to provide the boxes at all . Thats why they are upgrading to downloadable security, cloud enabled guide and network dvr.
I do not know where people keep getting this they are making money from boxes . |

I do not know where people keep getting this they are making money from boxes . if that was the case, then they wouldn't have gone to digital with encryption, OR they would allow people to buy the boxes, and pay for them themselves, and have them serviced by the manufacturer. so that don't make sense at all. like they didn't know they'd have to provide boxes they way it's set up now!. they must be making money on the rentals. |
|
 | They do allow customers to bring their own boxes. Its called tivo and the pc Tuner cards. |

They went digital to free up bandwidth. They went with encryption to deter cable theft. They do allow people to buy boxes - anything that supports cablecard. $2/month allows you to tune 4 channels simultaneously. -- NOTHING justifies terrorism. We don't negotiate with terrorists. » www.google.com/search?q=building···t+playerthe content delivered to cablevisions silverlight app is sent in the same exact manner as netflix with the exception that it is configured not to operate with an external monitor and it operates out of the browser. audio and video is streamed in "chunks" and reassembled by the silverlight app. each chunk of audio & video data is "evaluated" and quality adjustments are made as necessary. below is the XML used to configure silverlight for CBSHD. » pckms.iptv.optimum.net/epclive?c···gn=CBSHDthe XML tells the story of what audio & video codecs are being used and their maximum bitrate, samples and resolution. data is represented as bits. parameters for CBSHD: (16:9) video can be configued as: 320x180, AVC1 @ 417000 416x240, AVC1 @ 857000 640x360, AVC1 @ 1445000 960x540, AVC1 @ 2032000 audio is always at: 48Khz, 16bits, 2 channel, AACL @ 96000 this could be played in third party media player that supports "smooth streaming". no its not HD, the max is only 1/2 (960x540) of HD (1920x1080) there are no XML configurations beyond 960x540 for CV streaming, not yet at least. so even if you did connect this to your external monitor, say a 24 inch with a resolution of 1920x1200, it would look like shit @ 960x540 anyway. im pretty confident that CV is using this to deliver the content » www.ccur.com/products_od_mediahawkvx.aspxcontent is delivered as HTTP ABRS. all content offered and delivered is DRM protected. other relevant info: » forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=84002» mithunme.wordpress.com/2009/11/0···-format/» www.tech-archive.net/Archive/Med···023.html» smooth.codeplex.com/» msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library···vs.90%29now that this has been posted, im confident CV will have their attention drawn to it, so dont expect this to last. |

 | Yeah my monitor is 1920x1200 so the quality will definitely be bad. But I guess this is still a first step to making it work. |
