1 edit | [DSL] Any updates to the Cellpipe situation? Sorry if that thread is still around here.. I tried looking for it and couldn't find it, and my direct link still doesn't work.
Anyway, since it's been so long what with DSLR being down, I'm wondering if there's any updates on the Cellpipe modem rebooting constantly? I know it's not fixed because it just happened to me several times, but is there anything new?
Also, and I've seen this questioned asked a few times but never answered so maybe there's a legal reason, but isn't there anything TS can do to bell about this? I mean, they're sending defective modems to TSI exclusively (they give different, working modems to their own customers), and in addition to that, are now charging us for it - and it's been completely busted for MONTHS. As incompetent as the CRTC may be, SURELY there's SOMETHING that can be done? Even if it's a slap on the wrist to Bell and not a "FIX THIS SITUATION RIGHT NOW." (which would be nice also..) Something that will punish Bell, even a little? I'm sick of dealing with internet that has been borderline unusable for months. I know it's not TS's fault, but where the blame lies isn't much consolation when I'm in the middle of something or a call and lose my internet because of a modem that's been broken for months - that I am now forced to use in addition to being charged for.
Sorry for the rant, but it's getting old. Anyway, is there any updates? |

Still a ridiculous amount of time since these issues were made known late last year or early this year. 5 months... |

 | reply to Pinworm45 Okay, so it's not just me. I'm new to Teksavvy and I was getting worried. I'm not the most tech savvy person so I was thinking, "Oh damnit, I'm probably gonna have to pay 80 bucks or something for this crap."
But yeah, what the hell. I really don't see why I'm being forced to pay 8 bucks for a defective modem. |

Fixing stuff is sometimes easier said than done... Ikanos/Alcatel have been working on resolving Ikanos firmware/hardware problems for the past 3-4 years already. Workaround for Cellpipe problems could take just as long. |

| reply to Pinworm45 Are you able to use the Sagemcom modem for the Teksavvy account? I am new to this problem...just curious. Has anyone used a Cellpipe behind a Sagemcom (bridge)? -- My Canada includes Quebec. Disclaimer: If I express an opinion, it is my own opinion, not that of Bell or its related companies. |

This isn't tweaking the performance of the chipset or reliability of dsl connection. This is purely some bad code that causes the modem to crash and reboot. It even does it when it's not plugged into anything, after a full factory reset. I've tried all sorts of combination with different features enabled/disabled, etc.. Nothing works. -- GO BLUE JAYS!

decxPremium join:2002-06-07 Vancouver, BC | I don' even think that the rebooting issue has any thing to do with the DSL functions of the modem. My guess is something with the embeded OS itself that's causing it to reboot periodically. If it takes them 3-4 years to fix this they shouldn't be in this business. |

It's probably a memory leak, it just craps out eventually. Because other firmwares of this modem don't do this. Just the one, 1.0.4.4R3WH. -- GO BLUE JAYS!

1 edit | reply to Pinworm45 I have the Cellpipe with my FibeTV and it never does this "reboot" with firmware: 1.0.4.3EF-STINGER. That is why I am relatively new to this problem. Question: Can you use the same firmware for a Teksavvy login ID? -- My Canada includes Quebec. Disclaimer: If I express an opinion, it is my own opinion, not that of Bell or its related companies. |

I've done a comparison on my line of 3 firmwares. 1.0.4.3EF-ISAM is by far the worst when running on a Stinger remote in terms of speeds. It's optimized for the 7330. 1.0.4.4R3WH reboots.
Problem is, Bell seems to only seem to send out the 7330 optimized ones now. Teksavvy tried 3 modem exchanges and I got the crap ones every time. -- GO BLUE JAYS!

 | reply to HiVolt said by HiVolt:This is purely some bad code that causes the modem to crash and reboot. Maybe, maybe not. Hardware may be triggering software bugs and vice-versa when you have buggy firmware running on buggy hardware. You fix one hardware bug with a software fix, run into a new hardware bug and now have to find a software fix for that or re-introduce the previous bug(s). If Bell isn't rolling back the rebooting modems, it may be because the bug that preceded the rebooting was somehow worse than the rebooting possibly in ways that aren't directly observable by end-users. |

The two prior firmwares work flawlessly, 1.0.4.3EF-STINGER for Stinger remote clients, and 1.0.4.3EF-ISAM for 7330 remote clients.
They don't reboot, they dont do any funny stuff.
1.0.4.4R3WH is FLAWED. -- GO BLUE JAYS!

 | The Cellpipe (Cellpig) is still a pig of a modem. Somehow all the ones that worked got shipped out to Telusland and Ontario is stuck with all the duds. Have to wait for DD-WRT to come out with firmware for it which will probably be never. |

They don't reboot, they dont do any funny stuff. They may not reboot or do any funny stuff observable by the end-user but that does not mean they aren't causing other problems on the network operator's side of things such as spurious noise and crosstalk that may interfere with other equipment, services or subscribers.
Just because everything seems fine does not necessarily mean that everything actually is. Every year, many things go horribly wrong because everything "seemed fine". |
