Re: Reuse R-22?

Yes, the reversing valve is a Ranco, and the solenoid part is functioning properly.

FWIW, the valve is still switching, but not completely.

When running as a heat pump, the valve leaks enough that the compressor shuts down after a short time (overheat sensor is tripped).

When running as an air conditioner, from the limited testing I have done so far, the compressor does not overheat, but the leak affects it enough to where the unit does not cool properly.

Thanks.

If the valve is not fully changing positions, it can be a couple of things.

1) Contamination

2) Inadequate compressor output

3) Slide worn

(Have you figured out yet that I was the engineer that supported this design? It was a very good valve, wish I could claim the design work.)

My concern would be that all three of these possibilities suggest that the rest of the system is not worth saving.
