Galaxy Nexus

Hi Everyone,

First I'll apologize for not writing this up in French, as my written French is very poor! But please feel free to respond in French as I understand it very well.

So finally got the GN and I have a couple of questions that I would appreciate if any members can touch on:

• Is there any way to remove the ZONE notification in the status bar notification? I'm presuming that this is a Videotron addition and is just visual pollution that I can do without.
• I've in the past seen posts on the YAKJU install in this forum (my phone has v4.02 YAJKUUX), and I can't seem to find them now. Can anyone provide the pros and cons? Is it really worth it to convert to YAKJU? And will this void the warranty?

I have found all necessary files and instructions for the YAJKU conversion on xda-developers, and am ready...just not sure.

It is not pollution, it tells you when you are (or not) in your zone (you have a "zone plan"). I don't think there is a way to hide it.

Thanks for the replies.

So I did convert to YAKJU 4.04 and have noticed that the phone performs better and battery life is much improved. The install went quite smooth except for the driver installation! But I sorted that all out.

The ZONE notification is still there and after some digging, I've discovered that it's STK.APK located in /system/app (SIM Tool Kit, if you force stop it, the notification goes away) that is reading directly from the SIM card. I took the SIM card out of my wife's Nexus S (SOJU 4.04 via OTA), which doesn't have the ZONE notification, put it into my GN, and the notification popped up! But note that I've not been able to locate STK.APK on the Nexus S. The reason I call it 'pollution' is because I don't like it there. It'd make much more sense if a notification would appear only if you're 'out of the zone', and for crying out loud, use a better icon!

It would be interesting to read Android's dev guide on Status Bar Notifications, just gotta find the time to do it. Any Android devs out there that can shed some light on this?

You should file a complaint. If a lot of users complain about it, they might find a way to change this behavior.

But this feature appeared on Android 2.3 (from what I remember), With 2.2 (and lower) this notification was not there.

If you're rooted you can actually get rid of it.
