System Wide DSL Speed Slowdown? From 5.1 MB to 1-2 MB???

Did Frontier slow everybody's DSL down? There are people in other areas that are even telling me that their speed is slowed down now along with me and a neighbor. When I called they said that I was on a busy circuit and that the problem would not be fixed until October. Went from a consistant 5.12 MB down to an inconsistant 1-2 MB. What a JOKE!

Busy circuit? Sounds like they oversold your area, and with the timeframe of october hopefully you have other options. It would seem they still want you to pay for higher speed with no way of achieving that speed with the exception of off-peak hours. Get your neighbors to switch at the same time.

I don't get how it goes from 5.12 MB consistently to 1-3 MB (it has went up to 3 MB at times now) inconsistently in a matter of a few days. They said they were switching people to different circuits. I never seen speeds this bad before.

DSL is a shared service, multiple connections per circuit, and only so much capacity per circuit.

Promise to cancel your service if they don't put you on another circuit so you can get the speed you were paying for, and if that doesn't do anything then they don't want your money.

Sounds like an area-wide issue if every line in your area was slowed. I'm still synched at 3712/896 and get that before overhead. I know a bunch of areas are having this happen due to congestion. No one knows if the speeds will be like that permanently or until they actually bring capacity in.

Speeds are back to normal at my place. What I could not understand is why my neighbor was syncing to the DSLAM at only around 1600 kbps down according to the modem stats. Frontier tried to tell me that was his internet speed but I know better than that. Ain't that the speed to the DSLAM itself? It is just across the road from him and he used to get 5-6 MB.

Probably changed his bundle and got placed under Frontier caps... 1.6 sounds like the speed we cap a lot of our DSLAMS at in oversold areas.

Bundle was not changed by anybody that had the issue.

Or so you think... Customer service a lot of times will roll your bundle but advise you nothing is changing... It has happened to a lot of people in the former Verizon areas.

I can tell you the cause...

People who've been waiting TWELVE freaking years for Diablo III are pasted to their rigs, beating the snot out of Asmodan and Heavy D on Inferno level.

(I'm only half-joking. It was a close thing...I built my current rig 18 months ago in anticipation of this game. I was sweating bullets, waiting for Frontier to deploy to my house before the release because the nitwits at Blizzard REQUIRE always-on broadband to play it, even in single player mode.)

The game is awesome, just gorgeous, and chewing through some of the scenery has me tearing-up. Who cares about the villagers?

Oh, how I feel the pain and sympathy for dialup and satellite users who want to play and can't. I'm still PO'ed at Blizzard on their behalf.

Diablo 3 :3

I downloaded the game at work where it took no more than a few minutes for all of those gigabytes. Beats waiting at home for that same data to take half a day or a full 24 hours depending on the DSL connection I'm on!

The Always-online requirement of Diablo 3 sucks, especially on launch day when they were having so many issues. Couldn't play single player without having some sort of connection to BattleNet and the Diablo 3 servers.
