couple questoins service kinda got bad

hey shouldnt my verizon 3g Millenicom modem being getting close to the same speeds as my iphone 4 on the same 3g network? I mean wow my iphone has been blowing it out of the water big time. Iphone speed = 1.5 mb down .75 up . ... 3g USb 760 novatel = .45mb down .20mb up

Do modems just go bad after a while?

Try re-orienting your Novatel 760.

Are you on sprint or verizon? Got it in a router? Are other machines using the 760 on a router while doing the speed test?

Try powering down the 760 for at least 40 mins and see if it goes back to normal.

Just means to move it around... it might be in a position that blocks signal, or where signal is echoing more than you are seeing with the iphone.

If you find that moving it to a new location does the trick you might consider a router then you can keep it in the location that works best.

If you find it is always slower I would contact Mcom and see what might be happening.

I even tried my 25 FT USB cable is that too long? It wont work with it? Its suppose to have a active repeater in it.

Would this antenna be a better route than a router?

I dont plan on hooking anything else up to this connection. And id rather not have to call them millenicom guys up.

I tested a CellGear antenna like that one sometime back, it produced little or no gain.
Take a look at the antennas at maximumsignal.net
Give them a call and ask what would be best for your application.

I think the link below is the antenna Jim tested that was the good one. »evdotips.blogspot.com

Another question should my modem be warm to the touch?

If your are uploading a big file the modem can get very hot. All depends on how much transmit power it takes to get a usable signal back to the tower.

Well i tried a different USB port. I didnt think it would make much difference but... REALLY? Lol too bad i gotta leave the door on my Tower open to use it but it might be worth it! LOL

Yea my guess is that its the location of the device... try a shorter usb extension cable (one without a built in hub aka active repeater) and see if you can find a position that gets you better speed... or keep an eye out for a cheap cradlepoint router.

My 760 stays warm most of the time, just to give you some peace of mind.

Good luck!

Get a ten foot usb extension cable, it should work with your modem.
On the other hand I have a T-mobile modem that will not work with any extension cord except the short cable that came with the modem.
You should find a much stronger signal by testing different positions in the room. Many times a window can produce good results.

Also: All USB ports are not the same. I have found some ports provide more power than others.
