Re: [DSL] New Bell DSL speeds in Ontario

25/7 customers will be automatically upgraded to 25/10. It's the same tier.

I will drop my 28/1 cable gladly for 10Mbps up. Even with the new upload speeds for cable on the horizon, knowing Rogers it won't happen until 2013. The upgrades for POI and the looming change to aggregated POI will also take so long before speeds once again come close to what is actually being sold/purchased.

The 15/10 package with 300GB is just perfect, assuming the unlimited night-time applies. I am eager to hear more news about this

I would be careful though - I'd test what kind of performance you get first before cancelling your package.

There are a couple concerns here:
1) The modem is a POS, make sure everything works fine for at least a few days.
2) Speeds are acceptable - they can be 10/0.6 all the time for all you know (just make sure its worth the price).

The modem is a rental, so you can always return everything if needed. Personally, I'd give it a month to make sure everything works trouble-free before cancelling cable.

I would definitely play my cards so that there is overlap between the services. Last thing I want is to have a crappy connection but that upload speed potential is just too tempting.

Be careful that Bell doesn't lock you into a 2 year contract. Rogers new bundle plans give you 6 months at a cheaper price but lock you into a 2 year plan. This is their way to assure you won't bail on them after 6 months, if you try jumping out after 6 months they could stick you with 100% of the 2 year plan if they choose too.

Did you actually try to get the 175 service because it's common for the website to say you can get it but when you actually order it over the phone they tell you that you can have it next year.

Only 3 of the 1,075 people who looked at the map contributed.
Locations of tested 25/7 installs would be nice.

I am pretty sure they don't put out exact locations because then Rogers would know exactly where they need to compete and exactly where they don't. That would be too easy...

jmch can you get IPTV in your building? I added your building, confirmed 175/175 availability through Bell's site but Bell is saying your not ready for Fibe TV yet. Which makes sense, I had VDSL2 almost a year before IPTV launched in my area, seems they need separate regional equipment for that.

No it's not available yet... I removed the Sagemcom F@st modem that they provided anyways. So it would be a PITA for me to setup all of the IPTV QOS rules seperately. I think i'm gonna just stick with Rogers TV (I barely watch it anyways) and call retentions once fibe tv is available and see if they will match the price.

Can you login to wholesale PPPoE from there? Does test@test/test work?

Nobody was sure of if 3rd party logins would work when VDSL2 first came out, and then we found out it works. Maybe it's the same for FTTH.

The fact that you keep calling them "bHell" should be a big hint. It's juvenile and not constructive. Nobody using such terms should be taken seriously.

This setiment also applies to those who claim to be unable to write whatever unpronouncableisp ? Just sayin'

I've tried with a Teksavvy login and it didn't work.

FTTH is on a different network as far as I'm aware.

The CRTC hasn't approved the tariff yet, but some of them like 25/10 should be available immediately pending Bell's upgrades. That is to say, existing 25/7 customers are supposed to get upgraded to 25/10 when existing Bell customers do, and Bell's schedule for that stuff was "over the two weeks following May 6th"

I'm in Meadowvale "Misississauga"
The only service Bell internet can give me is glorified dial up.
Damn I missing out.

Plz don't feel bad... Even Steve Wozniak, one of the Apple founders, himself... suffers so. Imagine that.

Of course, Steve Wozniak is rich enough that he can afford a commercial internet solution in place of broadband if he wanted it bad enough. Two or three grand a month will get you at least a fractional DS3 at 10 megs, although some sort of cellular data solution could potentially provide similar connectivity at a lower cost (even for high usage). For example, CLEAR has coverage in Los Gatos, and all their "4G" plans (HSPA+ now, TD-LTE soon) are unlimited for about $50 per month. If he was a bit outside the coverage area, a metal tower (like for TV antennas) next to his house might get him above the obstacles and get him service.

He's close enough to a densely populated area to have options, even if none of them are great.

it's also common for wireless companies to claim "unlimited" but actually cap you to dial up speeds if you use more than a set amount.
