Re: Dish Network Will Drop AMC, IFC, WE & Sundance on 6/1/12 said by MuDvAyNe:My life has been much less stressful and more pleasant since dumping DISH a year ago. In the NY market they got rid of every RSN And of course that couldn't have anything to do with them asking too much and belive it or not MOST not giving a CRAP (or know how much of their bill is SPORTS not entertainment).
Actually what AMC is aking for is TRIVIAL compared to what the non premium sports channels you are paying for.
But you have to draw a line some where and sports ain't it sadly.
As far as I am concerned that should be 100% you pay for, not package people that could care less subsidise BS.
You want to pay for it be my guest but 3/4 of my bill for the non pay channels and don't give a CRAP about (that's what sports bars are for) FU.
And maybe you want to say this is silliness but its not. I know a venue that paid god knows what for NFL Sunday Rip off (at least $1k/mo) but had to pay another $500 fo ESPN, in every ones basic package.
You want to blame any one for cable/sat cost its (not) FREE ch SPORTS otherwise your cost would be half at least.
FACT
We should be able to chose, but not the way the construct is... YOU MUST want it or not.
And how the sports people keep their rates so artificially high and entertainment is left to scrape up the scraps. --

Steve MehsGun Control Is Using A Steady HandPremium join:2005-07-16 | reply to Steve Mehs Well, it shouldnt be a surprise to anyone but the second rate satellite company known as Dish, has taken away more channels from their paying subscribers. As expected Dish took away AMC, IFC and WE at midnight tonight after pulling Sundance a few weeks ago,
Lets start a pool on what group of channels get removed from Dish next, since Chuckie thinks he shouldnt have to pay for the content he resells on his second rate service. There was a dispute with Fox not too long ago, theres an ongoing Disney dispute, the Rainbow channels are gone, so Ill take a stab in the dark and say next Dish will start shit with NBC U/Comcast. -- For the future of our nation, we must unite and vote out the terrorist known as Hussein Obama. Dish chose to defend their users again vs unusual price increase for all based on single channels.
They even gave them a moth to think it over pushing them down into the 9600's but still there.
Mad Men is done for the season... and I'll bet AMC et al will give in and negotiate vs being gone forever from $25% of viewers for their pig headedness.
Sorry they so over extended themselves doing original productions, without audience numbers... to ask for such an outrageous rate increase.
Again Mad Men their only show I really cared about is done... and this will be resolved by next season... or AMC will just plain be gone from everywhere forever.
When the other provider contracts come due doubt you will see others just giving in to ridiculous demands either. DISH just happened to be first. --

Steve MehsGun Control Is Using A Steady HandPremium join:2005-07-16 | So do you really believe what you posted?
This article says the exact opposite and contradicts your entire post. AT&T and Rainbow came to an agreement with no service interruption. There was absolutely no way these channels were not going to be dropped at the stroke of midnight. This has been premeditated for months, if not years dating back to Voom. Moving them to the 9000 range had nothing to do with giving them more time. It was an immature move by a second rate company. So if you want to continue to believe Chap Charlie is some type of hero standing up for the little guy, be my guest. But the guy is just a narcissistic cry baby billionaire, who will screw his customers just because his is too immature to come to an agreement over the Voom debacle from years ago.

jmorlanHmm... That's funny.Premium,MVM join:2001-02-05 Pacifica, CA kudos:4 | reply to Steve Mehs We don't get AMC or IFC because we are on the basic Dish America package. When we experimented with a different package that offered AMC, we found out that we could no longer get the Comedy channel in HD. I wasn't about to give that up while paying more money. We get "Mad Men" on DVD for free from the local library anyway. |

You believe what you do?
VOOM (which was a debacle from the get go that never came close to delivering what they said they would) and AMC/IFC/WE are corporately related but two completely different issues. --

If this dispute was solely about price it would have played out differently. Dish wouldnt have announced it was a done deal that the channels were gone 2 months before the contract was up. But this is all sour grapes over Voom. Not sure why youre in denial, when its all pretty obvious. -- For the future of our nation, we must unite and vote out the terrorist known as Hussein Obama. But this is all sour grapes over Voom. Not sure why youre in denial, when its all pretty obvious. BS Dish let views know a good month or two before it did the Viacom thing was likely to happen a few years back... it was no sudden shock, but to those just not paying attention. And they did this time too it was no secret.
Again though corp related VOOM and AMC are legally and every other way totally different issues. DISH chose a bad way out but VOOM never even began to deliver what they promised. Thinking they were going to be the next exclusive NFL Sunday Rip Off type thing... but unlike the NFL had crap to deal and was destined to fail even if DISH didn't bail on them.
Just as today AMC just can't deliver the viewer ratings to demand the far beyond typical increase they demanded. OK Emmy award winning but that is ALL Mad Men ALONE... not the other expensive productions they dove into... that have fans... but just not enough. And you note they did make sure not pulled before the Mad Men season was done... the ONLY real audience/critic/viewer grabber in the bunch.
That other providers like ATT in this one you mention and in the case of Viacom Comcast and DTV just totally caved to the rate hike demands means nothing... but just passed that on to the customers.
As I recall Viacom was gone under 2 weeks... before agreement was reached... we will see with AMC but again it will not be forever as you seem to think. --

Steve MehsGun Control Is Using A Steady HandPremium join:2005-07-16 | Keep living in your fantasy world where el Cheapo, Chuckie Ergan, can do no wrong. Not sure why youre so in love with this two bit operation that is a complete joke or that snake the runs the company. Did Dish leave AMC up for the season finale of Mad Man out of the goodness of their hearts, or was it because they were contractually obligated to carry the channel through June 30 2012? Me thinks that was the reason.
If you care to read any of the links on the subject, instead of creating a scenario in your head, youll see that for the first time ever, this isnt simply a case of Dish being cheap, that probably comes into play a little bit, since this is Dish were talking about. But its about Voom. Dish made no real attempt to negotiate with Rainbow. And no, AMC will not be back on Dish anytime soon. Certainly not in two weeks. Is ABC Family HD or ESPNews HD back yet? -- For the future of our nation, we must unite and vote out the terrorist known as Hussein Obama. Just that other providers have caved in to their demands and passed it on to subscribers.
And stop the failed from start VOOM yes DISH screwed up exiting for not in any way delivering what they promised crap... corp related but the issues have nothing to do with each other --

Steve MehsGun Control Is Using A Steady HandPremium join:2005-07-16 | Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but Dish is giving away free Roku boxes to those that call up and complain about the loss of AMC. I'm not sure if you can get AMC content on a Roku or not, but if so that would be one way.
This is more proof that Dish had every intention of dropping AMC for a while now. You can't just decide to offer free Roku boxes and have them shipped out next day on a whim.

 | reply to Steve Mehs Man, this sucks. I had no idea this was gonna happen when I signed up 3 months ago. Is there some way to get out of my contract based on this crap and switch over to DTV without a penalty? I just finished the 3 month promotional period and cancelled all the premium channels since they're no longer free. Now all I have is America's Top 200 and was counting on IFC and AMC for some of my regular programming. I liked HDnet a lot and now that's gone, too. Roku won't work for me since I have crappy satellite internet. Very disappointed. |

You let them they will demand more without reason...as AMC (without numbers) did and with IFC being pretty much crap... used to be good...plain and simple.
Pretty much in the past DTV has always caved to every demand... FINALLY they got some balls to stand up to the bastards... about damn time. --

I still cannot believe that you still think it's solely about money, when there is an article and people in the know have comment that it is 95% sour grapes over Voom. But then again, you don't understand about data only cellular devices getting a phone number so I wouldn't expect you to understand that with the Dish Network/AMC dispute that Chuckie is being a crybaby bitch about Voom and punishing his subscriber base . -- For the future of our nation, we must unite and vote out the terrorist known as Hussein Obama. Again its AMC come to the table. You have ONE true hit show Mad Men and 4 others costing a lot of money they can't ad support and want their viewer not advetisers who know better to, and even sticking in an extra 5 min of cheap ads all they can get, rather than more in a still one hour format they want to say its all worth.
And honestly I find MORE to watch on HDNET now AXS-TV and HDMC, than I was watching on AMC and IFC have been replaced by.
Mad Men goes another season... might have to find an alternative or just wait a few months for free in my Netflix sub... either way I do not live and die by TV.
Sad thing is many seem too and why the suppliers get away with this crap.
AMC OK but IFC has been CRAP for over a year... though used to be good. WE like who (in any numbers) gives a crap that's gone. Sundance (again very limited appeal) has never been any part of even full basic and on DISH attached to Showtime as I reccall. --
