[Baseball]Official 2012 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

So guess I have to re-start it.

For the Jays, they're 15-11 right now, technically, they're the 2nd wild card. They're ahead of the Yanks and BoSox.

Should be a great gave tonight in Anaheim.

Starting pitching has been surprisingly positive, the bullpen has been so so, but the hitting is what is ailing this team.

Lind is hitting .193, Bautista is hitting .172, Arencibia is hitting .211...

Those other guys ok, but WTF is with Bautista?

Encarnacion and Johnson are the only consistant hitters. Lawrie has started to come around recently as well.

It's early yet. I think the bats will start to heat up this month. Pitching has kept them in the race so far; hitting will win it over time.

I know, but wtf is with Bautista... He's not been the same after the All Star break last year.

So has everyone figured him out, and he was a 2 year wonder?

I freakin hope not. He's also been acting up his frustrations, slamming the bats, rolling eyes at umps, arguing, and he doesn't even run hard for routine ground balls.

Hard to say what is wrong with him. However, look at Albert Pujols, 445 lifetime HR's including at least 32 per season since 2001, including 37 last year. He has 0 this year. ZERO. He's not the only one....

Hehe, for Pujols it's karma for leaving St. Louis.

Anyway, Bautista had a 2 run homer last night. Maybe he'll snap out of it. But He's hit a homer every 4-5 games and then nothing...

Great pitching performance from Henderson Alvarez in the 4-0 complete game shutout. Second in a row following Morrow's CG SO. First time the Jays have done that since 1993.

Was that Morris and Hentgen back in 1993? Pretty sure at least Jack Morris...

Pitching and defense has been good, I like how the infield plays...triple Play a couple weeks ago, Lawrie is quick at third. Very athletic team.

Yeah the infield has been great. Lawrie has incredible range and reflexes. Escobar & Johnson have been excellent as well, and even Adam Lind has been solid at 1st base.

Outfield has been pretty good too.

Yeah, the outfield, Rasmus can pretty much cover the whole thing himself.

Nice thing about defense, it generally remains consistent whenever everything else is hot or cold. In the past, watching the infield was hard to watch, as guys double clutch before releasing the ball to first, or letting the ball come to them. I don't see close plays at first, they're out before they get their. Some of the plays Johnson and Lawrie have made is just incredible.

Pitchers OWN the league for the first 6-8 weeks. The hitter's timing just isn't 100% yet. It takes a while to get that back each season. But soon, very soon, the hitters will catch up.

Is anyone else surprised by EE and his hot start this year? After my hating him the last couple of seasons, I can now see why the Jays hung on to him. Until he plays at 1B - then he gives me the rage again.

Edwin has been carrying the team offensively to some extent. He is capable of 25-30 HR's a year. Good DH material.

Not sure about the pitching aspects you mention, I've seen the exact opposite with some teams. Whatever the case, we shouldn't be surprised by this staff, some even believe that Morrow might be Cy Young material. I think we have a solid 1-4 staff, and Drew has great potential. We have a lot of ground ball pitchers, great for a team that has solid defense, also great to keep pitch counts to under 100 for 9 innings.

No, first time since 1998 when Jimmy Key and Dave Stieb went back to back with CG SO's.

First time since 1988 that there were two complete game shut outs back to back, first time since 1993 that the team had two back to back shut outs. Key was with Baltimore in 1998...

Good memory none-the-less, I couldn't have recalled that myself.

Drabek trying to make it three tonight. Would be fun if he did. I can see another shut-out..not sure for 1 pitcher..his whip is a little high. High strike-outs equals high pitch count.

I'll watch first 3 innings or so..off to bed, have to work 8 hours tomorrow....(up at 5... )

Jays are still wild card leader, btw. (they're the 2nd WC Holder)

Despite their lack of luck lately. New York and Boston are doing worse...
