U-Verse Re-Wire

Ok I re-wired my U-Verse installation, I used Cat-6 from the Dmarc to the RG, and Cat-6 for the ethernet runs, I ran everything to an old central wiring box in my laundry room. Wireless on the RG is disabled I use wireless on my Apple Airport Extreme locate din my home office.

The switch onto was the switch I purchased from AT&T at the time of my U-Verse install, the small black box above the RG on the right is my Skype VOIP adaptor feeding into my home phone wiring.

You can also see the battery backup and the set-top wireless adaptor on top of the cabinet to the right.

Looks good, but doesn't the metal enclosure play hell with your wireless signal? Or do you not use the wireless capabilities of that router?

he probably doesn't use it as next to the battery backup he has a wireless unit sitting next to it.

That wireless unit is only for set-top boxes for U-Verse TV. The U-Verse (2wire) box has its own routing capabilities, we well as its own wireless capabilities, which is why I thought it odd that he had another wireless router in the enclosure with it.

Closer inspection reveals what I should have seen in my first glance, the Netgear equipment is a switch, not a router, and probably lacks wireless capabilities. It all makes sense now; I'm guessing the only thing here that's wireless is a set-top box.

"Wireless on the RG is disabled I use wireless on my Apple Airport Extreme locate din my home office."

It's in the 1st paragraph.

Beautiful structured IW panels are, well, beautiful...

It always makes my day as an Installer when I come to a house/townhouse/condo/apartment that has a properly wired/installed structured wire system

That's very nice, but that equipment needs to breath. How are you keeping it cool?

Very nice, clean job but 3801's are kinda hot. Was wondering like Splork, how are you gonna keep it cool in there?

Thank you everyone, and yes that is a Belkin Switch that is compatible with the U-Verse Multicast traffic.

I was going to put a cabinet like this in my utility room, but my wife wanted it in the garage. I said that if it was going into the garage, then why bother with a cabinet? My "wiring closet" is a sheet of plywood mounted on the wall. Not pretty, but very functional.

I completed this just over a month ago, there is breathing room on all 4 sides of the RG, there is a 6 inch wide conduit on top where the wires go straight up about 2 feet and enter the attic, any hot air that is rising can go through the conduit and vent out, I have been checking it and the RG is no warmer in the cabinet than it was sitting on my desk, and I have had 0 service problems since moving everything.
