[IE] Running Windows Media Player Add-on issue

I went to a website that had a video imbedded and in the IE 8 Information warning bar at the the top, it asks if I wanted to choose to run the Windows Media Player addon and I did, and as soon as I did, my monitor went blank with the monitor LED blinking.

I had to restart my PC as well. What can cause this to happen?

After the reboot, I went to the same site, and the video was working fine with the Windows Media Player. But the actual video is embedded into the website"s main page.

What can be the cause of this and how can I recover from situations like this next time without rebooting the PC?

Running on Windows 7 32-bit SP1.

Thanks.

Alt-F4 would probably close Media Player, which might get you your video back.

The blinky-light on the monitor suggests that the graphics card was not putting out anything that the monitor could deal with. Guessing wildly, I'd suppose this to be a video driver problem.
