Re: [Rant] US Post Office doesn't want coins anymore They aren't required to accept rolled coins, but they are required to accept U.S. currency (except, in some circumstances, pennies). Just "un-roll" them next time (which really does nothing more than verify that all of the coins are U.S. currency, as opposed to plugs or currency from other countries--Canada for example). If they still refuse, then refer them to the Department of the Treasury and/or the Federal Reserve. |

I guess you don't do online shipping. I can send stuff out in the middle of the night and just drop it in the bins. -- My Blog 2.2 |

I've done that before with no issues. FUCK COINSTAR and their 9.5% counting fee! pennies 1982 and earlier i save because if the gov does away with the penny, its legal to sell em as scrap! |

But just this past Monday, I went to send out some stuff. Got there at exactly 8am (opening time) & there was hardly a soul there! |

like the time i shipped a computer to someone here and it got handed off to UPS and arrived broken. I've never seen a video of usps tossing electronics or a hard drive over a fence! |

Channel 3 to me doesn't appear to want to dabble in the unPC issues. Channel 15 does[like sky harbor airport having unmanned security points at some times of the day](sorry can't say more than that) |

Our office has five windows & there can two or three people there at a given time. But it is a suburban office. I haven't been to any of the bigger offices in Boston for quite awhile, so I can't say how they are. |

 | reply to dvd536 said by dvd536:said by Barfly:They didn't want your coins but if you had bought stamps from one of their infernal machines with a twenty, your change would have been a fistful of Susan B Anthony dollars. uhmmmm NO! SBAs are worth at least $40 apiece. the usps machines give back prez coins not SBAs. That estimate seems a bit high compared to info available at this site... »www.coinflation.com/coins/1979-1···lue.html
But I agree with a PP -- if the PO guy won't take the rolls, it's time to unroll the coins and let him count them himself. |

 | reply to shortckt The last two times I was at the post office, the clerk asked me to pay with change. One time it was something like $2.17, and I had $2.15 and he said that was fine. |

| reply to shortckt Regarding SBA dollars, I believe it's the 1981 issues that are valuable, due to rarity. I have plenty of '79, '80 & '99 (reissues), but I've never seen an '81 in the flesh.
The ticket machines for our local transit system give dollar coins for change. One would get mostly presidents, but there can an SBA or two mixed in. |

| said by dvd536:Why were there reissues in 99 when the coins were melted down by the ton in the 80s? I would guess mostly for the recent uses in such things as vending machines & for transit authorities (just prior to the issue of the newer coins). They were discontinued back in the 80's due to the common problem of people confusing them w/ quarters. |
