DNLA image scaling.

I'm pulling a 720 x 480 mpg from my media server. This video is from my old PC based media server.

When using DNLA its stretching the image to fit the screen which messes with the aspect ratio. This is not too annoying if the content was letterboxed I can strech vertically and its fine. Full screen content is stretched. I have the players aspect ratio settings set to not stretch the content. This works correctly for content from cable.

Suggestions.

I'm also having similar problems like this. It appears mine is having trouble maintaining the ratio of the video formats (853x360 based on HandBrake Strict Anamorphic setting). Seems like they rushed this feature out before it was really tested much.

If the file is not an MPG, it could be the DLNA server and how it transcodes the file. An MPG should just get streamed to the player.

The is definitely ultra tv. I connected my blu-ray player to the DNLA server and the mpg recorded TV shows displayed as expected.

I don't see any problem when pulling up a file with the same parameters.

Alan - Agreed. The video plays just fine via my XBOX 360, via Skifta/MX Video Player on my android touchpad (same on all android phones). TVersity is configured (to the best of my knowledge) to never transcode any of my video.

Playing via Home Connect results in constant screen refreshes. I'm almost certain the media gateway is having trouble rendering resolutions, file formats, or refresh rates that don't natively match a pre-selected TV resolution.

Since the initial post I have changed the DNLA server software to tversity. Which streams the divx avi's much smoother.

This had no effect on the stretch. Someone needs to look at the media player and make a change so that the aspect ratio of the videos is preserved.

I'd like to see Home Connect DLNA image scaling fixed as well.

I'm not convinced it is the media player. I have noticed that some movies get stretched to my 55" Vizio but not to my 40" Sceptre. Same movie, same settings on both media players. Most movies are scaled fine on my Vizio, but for a select few. But all of the ones that get stretched on the Vizio are fine on the Sceptre. Which leads me to believe it is the TV somehow.

This is using TVersity 1.9.7 btw.

I'm currently using tversity with my Samsung plasma.

If I access the movies with my blu-ray player they keep the correct aspect ratio. If I access them with the player they are stretched side to side.

I have been able to track it back to the resolutions you allow the player to display. In my testing, If you tell the player that the screen can display resolutions lower than 720p it will stretch the content to fit the width of the screen but not the height. This can be corrected via the TV remote. The real annoyance is that the player seems to "reset" the output rez on occasion. This reset resets the the TV and you have to fix the output again.
