1 edit | My 'Neighborhood' (Sigh) A Couple years ago I moved from 2Ghz to 5Ghz. I kept being 'stepped on'.
Every now and then I check to see how the 'neighborhood' is doing.
Today:
Ch1 One 35% CH5 One 50% CH6 Seven (all reporting 40-80%) CH11 One 50%
and me 'somewhere else'!! !
They are getting better.... Only half are open.... Used to be 80+% -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |

| reply to Jan Janowski LOL! "I moved from 2 to 5" made me think GHz instead of channels.
For all practical purposes, the 802.11g 2.4GHz band is 3 data channels at roughly channels 1, 6 and 11. For reasons no commercial interest would tolerate, it was split into 11 overlapping channels.
Gee, they should have done 100 channels and make people feel even better - then we'd be using 1, 50 and 100.
The difference between channels 5 and 6 are practically meaningless. If anything significant is gained being on channel 5 vs. 6 then your data is fooling you.
5GHz is possibly the place to be by yourself in a lot of places right now. But everyone's mileage will vary. |
|
 | while being at 5Ghz is really awesome, the distance between the wireless access point and a wireless device seems to be shorter compared to 2.4Ghz |

Actually, I'm Glad 5Ghz doesn't go as far.....
So far, no one has joined me!! But I see they've started to grow 'guest channels'!!
