 | Approved cable modem list? Hi,
I can't seem to find the approved cable modem list for a friend that would like to subscribe to EBox in QC.
And it seems that I can't really search this DSLR forum only.
He's specifically looking to buy a used Docsis 2.0 modem for Speedcable 8.
Thanks |

Getting a docsis2 modem today is the equivalent of only using the rightmost lane on 4 lane superhighway. If there is a slowdown on that lane, tough luck because you can't use any other lane.
It won't be long before cable companies stop accepting new customers on docsis2 modems. |

 | reply to heredago Thank you for the link, I will re-quote here:

To help out your friend, here is a list of the models we can activate with eh 20$ fee:
Thompson - DCM475 ( 3.0)
Scientific Atlanta: - DPX2100 - DPC2100 - DPC2505 ( 3.0)
Motorola - SB5100 - SB5101 - SB5101N - SB5101U - SB5120 - SB6120 (3.0) - SB6180 (3.0)
Strongly suggest going for a 3.0 as 2.0 will be no longer accepted on the cable network in a few years. I understand the Docsis 2 vs 3 dilemna but this list can still be useful: for example, my parents had a very old Videotron SB5100 laying around, I've been using it for the past year with Teksavvy and everything is great for me |
