I was thinking about this last night. If I were in your shoes and Cox sent me that letter, what would I do?

I came to the conclusion: Nothing. If there were a bench order for my arrest, then I would engage an Attorney.

Otherwise, run silent, run deep.

It's not criminal, it's civil.

What would happen is that they'd get your ID. Then the harassing settlement letters and phone calls would begin. Blowing those off would probably result in the plaintiff filing a Federal copyright claim against you. Blowing that off would mean a judgement by default and a potential $150,000 judgment against you. From there come the liens on your property, garnishment of wages, etc.

Word to the wise: Never blow off anything legal. Bite the bullet and hire an attorney from the start. Just having legal representation can cause plaintiffs to rethink what they're doing.

^^ well, now we know how the Florida court has jurisdiction on a New York based company, this sucks, because innocent people have been known to get caught up in this.
