Re: Wifi Range My old Wrt54g kills any N router I've tried With N wireless networking the client MUST be N capable AND compatable because not all N is equal. If your wireless clients are not N capable and compatable with the N router then you are not going to be a happy camper.
One very good N wireless router I suggest you consider is the Netgear WNDR4500 .... -- David Mozer IT-Expert on Call Information Technology for Home and Business |

 | Yeah my clients are N. I just haven't seen good range with the 2 N routers I've tried compared to that old G I have.
I have the G on the 2nd floor of my house set up as a Bridge using DD-WRT for my Tivo and XBOX.
My main router is on the 1st floor.
From my basement, I can barely connect to the router on the 1st floor, but I have a great signal to the old G router which is 2 floors away. I have seen complaints of the range of the 2 N routers I've had which are a Linksys WRT310N and a Buffalo WZR-HP-AG300H |

Do your Clients support Spatial Multiplexing or Beam-forming or some combination of both? Are they 1 stream or 2 stream or 3 stream N?
If you get the Netgear WNDR4500 and your Clients support Spatial Multiplexing with at least 2 streams then your Range and throughput should be excellent regardless which floor you're on. 2nd Floor placement is where you want the wireless Router to be in your situation .... its just a question of how capable AND compatible your N clients will be with the N Router you choose. -- David Mozer IT-Expert on Call Information Technology for Home and Business |
