Re: STB rates going up

I just received by letter yesterday and it does say if you are on a promotion, it will not affect you until the promotion is over...

I am still waiting on a letter. I still have a year left in my promotion.

Do you know what they mean by "promotion"? Does it mean a discount applied for a specific period of time or does it also include something like the bundled package price you get if you bundle a MRDVR with multiple STB's? I have a 7232 MRDVR and 5 7100-2 STB's and pay a discounted rate of about $47 plus change for the package. I was under the impression my rate would increase $12 for the six boxes but now I am not sure.

Promotion I think would be you get STB for $X.XX for 12 months, explicitly. If you're not getting a free or discounted box right now, then I guess your rate is going up. What really infuriates me is if they rate the DCT700 prices. Those things are old. There's no reason to raise the rate other than price gouging.

I think they should phase out the SD boxes!

100% HD all the way!

Could not agree more!

Not only can all the HD channels take their rightful place (not segregated to 500+) but tube TVs will see a better picture and you can decide for yourself if you see center-cut or letterbox.

SD duplicate channels need to go the way of analog.

I'll agree with that when they produce a small HD box.

Depends on your VHO, I guess. At least for new installs, all VHO6 has is HD boxes. I couldn't get an SD box if I wanted to. We're a Cisco box area, in case that matters.

Received this letter today from Verizon regarding a rate increase for the MRDVR and digital adapters. MRDVR "three room" will increase from $29.99 to $33.97. FIOS digital adapters are going up $2.00 each. I'm on the 150/35 tier. If you are on a promotional offer the rates won't increase until the offer expires.

I have been paying $33.99/month for my 3-room DVR package since I signed up for it about a year ago, so I guess maybe Verizon is just bringing your price in line with what I think many of us have been paying for quite a while.

It sounds like they're getting the NY area to be more in line, price-wise, with the rest of the FiOS footprint.

I'm in the NY area. I called and asked about the equipment special offers which are discounts for multiple boxes and DVR's shown here .. »www22.verizon.com/FORYOURHOME/GO···NYD.aspx

The CSR said that is a national list and the discounts don't apply to NY area FiOS customers.

Just got the letter. I have a free Multi-room DVR for life so I don't see how the price increase will affect me. It stated nothing about stand alone DVR or a regular HD box.

I'm glad they aren't increasing the cable card rates again. I used to have eight and now I'm down to three cable cards for the ten tuners in my TiVos.

Probably forgot they're still out there, or they would have. There is simply no justification for increased DCT700 prices. None. Price gouging.

I was thinking about switching over to Tivo when their whole house service is available but even that seems like a pain in itself and maybe not even worth the trouble.

Rec'd the same VZ form letter earlier this week, still got 21 months to go before our promo contract's expiration date (since we only joined this March) - we have the "free for life" MR-DVR plus 1 free SD STB dlea, and 2 extra HD STB's for the bundled priced of $29.99 (thus, 4 TV's hooked up) before offsets by other discounts & promotional offers exclusive to the metro NYC market (aimed at Time Warner Cable of NYC) for the STB's that we now have - just a question of whether the $4.00 will go into effective now, which as VZ said, would be reflected in 2 or 3 billing cyclses - or upon expiration of the entire promo period.

Our neighbors with cable package across the street is waiting for their scheduled Fios installation - and, they would gladly "trade" bundles & packages with anyone on Fios now, even with these price increases. The monthly fees for a plain HD-STB was $15/mo when we left, DVR was $20/mo. Time Warner would increase those STB rental fees as they are announced, regardless of what promotion we had, no contract or otherwise ..

Prices are up everywhere you looked ... checked out your supermarket grocery bill for a loaf of good old "Wonder Bread"

HomeRun and I believe Ceton have Cable box type devices that use the Cable card. Not sure of the math results for the recoup in funds

Looks like a downgrade is imminent in my home.
