[DSL] Upgraded to 25/7, experiencing congestion

So I pulled the trigger on 25/7 upgrade during the free installation promo... I'm having several issues, one being that I can't get the full upload, the up profile is limited to 4800 at 80% occupancy... I dont know how thats possible with the remote only 200 meters away.. But anyway, the major problem I've been having is congestion, Basically when I get home from work around 5pm I already see slow speeds, and it slowly deteriorates to 5-6mbps by the time 9-10pm rolls around. After 11pm the speeds start to increase. Morning speed tests are full speed on the download.

Has anyone who's upgraded to 25/7 or even 16/1 from old ADSL1 to FTTN ADSL2+ or VDSL2 been experiencing evening congestion on the new FTTN remote?

I've documented all this in the Direct Forum, but so far have had no response. I have tested at the demarc, and I have tested with Bell login as well, so it is not an issue with Teksavvy's capacity.

Which modem did they end up giving you? You're not able to pull any stats?

Cellpipe 7310. The stats are more than fine for the downstream, attainable rate is up into the 60+mbps... The 4800 up sync is set because the line is at 80% occupancy on upload. I hope they will send a tech to check it out, but it hasn't gotten that far yet.

I'm more concerned about the congestion, because its crap in the evenings.

I NEVER had congestion problems on the old ADSL1 DSLAM.

I think this remote is congested, they either need to install another one or add capacity.

For sure with that loop length, you'd expect full upload speeds.

It's also got some interleave/delay on both download and upload. What kind of pings are you getting?

I dunno, havent tested pings yet... I'll check when I get home.

What bugs me is the Bell tech who switched the line to the FTTN remote never showed to the house, just to test the line make sure its ok. I tested at the demarc as well, stats are the same. So it has to be something further down the line, or maybe the pair is bad and they'd have to change it over. The remote is approx 200m away on the street, unless the copper goes in a strange loop somewhere.

Interesting.

Your stats are both quite good and seemingly bad at the same time. I'm not quite sure what to make of them.

Here are mine for one line (other line is very similar):
VDSL2 Firmware Version 6.12.0.5IK105012
VDSL2 Link Status UP
Downstream line rate 29424 kbps
Upstream line rate 9484 kbps
Bearer Downstream payload rate 26928 kbps
Bearer Upstream payload rate 8128 kbps
Downstream attainable payload rate 52544 kbps
Downstream attainable line rate 61364 kbps
Downstream Training Margin 17.1 dB
Downstream delay 0.0 ms
Upstream delay 0.0 ms
Tx total power 10.1 dbm
FE Tx total power 14.3 dbm
VDSL Estimated Loop Length 1742 ft
G.Hs Estimated Near End Loop Length 747 ft
G.Hs Estimated Far End Loop Length 0 ft

The other interesting thing is that your VDSL2 Firmware version is quite different (I know we are running different main firmware versions as well but...).

In particular what is the downstream and upstream delay? Is that normal? Why is the Near end 749 ft away? Do the stats vary much over the course of the day?

I really wish we had access to a pile of modems with different firmwares and different remotes and could do some proper testing on all of this and figure out what works and what doesn't. This black box stuff is really annoying when you can't trust the provider (Bell) to get it right in the first place.

Are you connected directly to the modem (i.e. is there any other equipment that might be influencing results)? Assuming that there aren't any other factors it does sound like the issue is something on Bell's end. If 25/7 is new to your area they may still be upgrading the backhaul.

There are two obvious problems here...

We can't see the attenuation on the line, but given that HiVolt estimates that the remote is 200m away and the modem estimates that it's around 300m, we can conclude with near certainty that the line isn't very long at all; it's well within the range of 7Meg uploads.

Secondly, there is definitely something strange going on during the evenings. It looks a heckofalot like a congestion issue.

These two things will probably have to work themselves out separately, as they are likely to be separate issues.

I tested right at the demarc as well. The speeds are the same at the demarc when its later in the day.

The modem right now is in the basement, where the POTS splitter is installed, and its plugged into the DSL Modem jack on the POTS splitter. All the house wiring is isolated by the POTS splitter. I tested with, without, in an unfiltered jack in the house, it makes no difference. The later it gets in the day, the slower it gets.

Anyway, talking to TSI now it looks like they are suggesting to open a ticket for it as they say the power should not be negative, that it could be a short or something else screwed up with the line beyond my demarc.

We'll see what happens.

Hey, I signed up with Teksavvy in 2009. Right from the beginning BELL threw me on a 6000/800k fast path profile so I always had true 5MPBS download speeds, which were always great. I was on an ALCATEL REMOTE. Never experienced any congestion, and line stats were amazing.

After my upgrade to 12 BELL threw me on a buggy IKNS remote so I can't achieve full upload speed no idea why they put me on an IKNS remote and just leave me on the CO because my stats on the CO were amazing and the IKNS is so buggy.

My 12M connection seems stable but I dunno every few days or so (not sure if it happens at night or what or all the time) I get new IP addresses .... i had a consistant IP with the old 6000/800 profile but on the 12M it seems to rotate quite a bit. But I never see less then 12M speeds ever. But I don't know what the changing IP crap is about

They didn't leave you on the CO because the VAST majority of CO's won't serve ADSL2+

platoon, i didn't understand your post. did you mean they took me off the CO because my CO doesn't support ADSL2+ and only ADSL or they took me off because my CO doesn't support DSL2+ ?

I am confused. Did you see my stats for the DSL1 profile? Amazing no? I could easily stayed there and get full upstream, now I am on a buggy IKNS remote. I will show you my now stats, can you compare and let me know what you think? thanks

Unless your 1 house away from the CO, you were never connected to it... Look at the attenuation.

I think you were always on the IKNS remote, but changed cards/ports. Anyway, IKNS works fine for me... Just the upload on ADSL2+ that is buggy.

IKNS with ADSL2+ and no VDLS2 don't have upload reading bug from my experience.
